1968 F-250 with C6 Transmission

Hey All,

My truck needs 15 minutes or so to warm up before it shifts to next gear.

After it runs for a while it seems fine for all gears

Lookng underneath i noticed a bolt missing on the pan. I was wondering if adding the missing bolt, changing my oil and filter would eliminate the issue?

any ideas?

Assuming the fluid is close to full, your trans has an internal leak and fluid is bypassing a sealing ring until it warms up. Time to rebuild or replace it.
1967 F-100 4x4 custom cab.

2016 F-150 Eco-Boost 2.7 liter. (It will smoke the tires!)

1972 F-250 Explorer Special, Camper Special.
1971 F-100 custom. 302, C-4, p.s. p.b. factory 65 amp alternator with transistorized voltage regulator.

Bummer. Any idea if some of those bottled transmission formulas would help?

It might give you temporary help, but the writing is on the wall . :(

I've limped some along with Lucas brand.

Are you sure you have type "F" fluid not Dexron ?

If vou decide to change the fluid ,don't forget to drain the torque converter .

cep62,

im draining the trans fluid now. I have a oil pan that the fill tube goes directly into the side. it appears frozen. i have to remove the filler tube with the pan it seems, hope i can pull it down intact.

Thanks for the advice on the torque converter, is there a drain bolt for that?


After i change the fluid and filter ill add some Lucas and see what happens. And yup I got F type in there.
