Radio and Dash Speaker Replacement

Post by Subzero »

I've decided it's time for the original 1968 radio and speaker to retire and replace them with modern ones. I bought a single din radio and the Volvo adapter for the dash. Only problem is the speaker. I don't want to do anything drastic but I do want good sound quality, to get over the sound of my glass packs. I'm guessing the best bet is to replace the dash speaker with a good quality new one. What size is the original or better yet what size fits where it goes? And how should I wire a single speaker to a radio that has multiple wires for 4 different speakers? Thanks

One of the suppliers ( macs, lmc, npd etc.) offered a replacement speaker for your exact situation. I can't remember which one but it should be easy to find.

I found the speaker at LMC, it's around $60 I think. They have a dual speaker which has two small speakers in place of one that fits in the single speaker spot or the single speaker. Not sure which one is better to buy but the dual speakers are $15 cheaper

I've seen that same one listed on LMC's website. Not sure about the loudness but the nice thing about it is directly fitting into the existing space so you don't have to find an alternate mounting location.

If it will be any help, this is how I did my stereo install. (The stock speaker is still in there, unused.):
