Post by moneyhouse »

I just got onto the freeway with a heavy load of firewood in the truck when the transmission slipped and quit doing its job. I coasted to the shoulder and called AAA. I can't get any engagement in any of the gears and it grinds sometimes when I put it into park. The fluid looks clean. I think I burned the clutch bands, but the grinding into park makes me wonder. What do you guys think?

That would make me wonder too. Can you get it into park or does it make noise after getting it into park? The parking pawl is directly on the output shaft and the noise would make me think that the transmission is working. You might want to look under while someone puts it in gear to see if the drive shaft is turning.

I had a F100 with a bad wheel bearing, which let the axle slide out and I lost forward momentum.
