Harbor Freight compressor

Post by Kurt Combs »

Anyone have experience with a Harbor Freight five horse, two stage, sixty gallon compressor? They have come down to $750 when on sale, making them the cheapest compressor out there.

BTW, I only need to do occasional work with a compressor and I would like to buy a small blast cabinet that would require a compressor.

Not the 5 horse but I have a 21 gal version that has served me reliably for the past 5 years. Actually, the first one I bought crapped out in a month, compressor locked down, but they swapped it out with this one no questions asked and it's been great ever since.

That is a good price for a two stage. I thought I got a fair price on my 2 stage I.R. 80 gal 5 HP for $999. at Tractor Supply.
I still have my 26 gal upright single stage Husky I bought from Home Depot for I think $299. give or take a few $$. It ran the sand blasting plenty good. Ran more than what I have now but worked very well.
A friend of mine used his sand blaster with his 20 gal 2.5 HP compressor and it did the job. Compressor just ran a lot.

My setup isn't the most expensive available but, it wasn't the cheapest either. However, both have paid for themselves many times over.

A bead blast cabinet will be the most demanding tool you have, in regards to air consumption and the demand it will put on an air compressor. This is a case where bigger is definitely better. I've never been able to out - run my compressor, when bead blasting. I cannot say that for others I have used, before I was finally able to buy my own.

My compressor is a Husky (from Home Depot), 7.5hp, 80-gallons, 2-stage, 23 SCFM @ 90 PSI.
