Re: Habu's 69 F250
Nice Bump, I've been a ford guy since I was 15 I'm 47 now. That being said I've noticed among all the different car makes one thing seems to hold true, Almost every vehicle regardless of make (GM,Ford,Dodge) if it's tan most likely its in great shape.I know its no chick picker-upper or stunning with a coat of wax but it does seem to be cop invisible.I don't know if anyone else has ever notice this but something about that tan makes it wear long and well. Can't wait to see your progress on your truck.

Thanks and I believe you are right. The tan cars kinda get passed over. But in this case this one didn't and isn't going to end up in a scrap heap somewhere.
Now on to new developments.
PARTS !!!!!!
got a couple of new parts and so for show purposes I put a few things on it so it didn't look so bare.
please ignore the dirty garage....
Things still to do to the motor.
put in the holley jet oil restrictors
install the HiPerf drip rails
get crank balancer keyway
resolve newly found issue with pass topmost valve cover bolt on intake.
install heater hose intake elbows
install balancer and flywheel
Parts still to get
new mounts engine/trans
alternator
p.s. pump and lines
water pump
fuel pump
possibly new throttle assembly to match on intake/carb
liquids, oil, filter
thermostat
plug wire crimping tool
Things still to do.
trans rebuild
radiator re-core
Should be able to get on the road in mid-Feb or early March. I hope. The only high dollar items really are the trans and radiator re-core. The rest I'll be getting in one HUGE trip to Napa...

Beautiful engine! And not sure if you were trying, but that's good lighting for those pictures. Oh - and I have that same Eleanor poster!

Thanks
I wish I was going for 'mood lighting' but garage just has a overhead florescent bulb.
Dad gave me that poster last year, it had to go up.
More picks coming soon. Got better drip rails and dropped in oil restrictors for the heads. Should be getting balancer key here shortly and then I can start putting most of it together.
The old engine should be coming out in a week or three. Have the $$ to rebuild the trans, just need time to get it all done.

Re: Habu's 69 F250
Been awhile since I've posted...
Before I started this, well at least before I parked the truck, the only thing I didn't like driving it was the power steering/gear box leaking fluid. It was getting to the point were it was fun to drive. Went on several trip to riverside and back and then some getting the parts, now that it's been down since about March, I'm starting to miss her. Hopefully I'll get everything I need in short order to get her back on the road soon
Since the last post, figured out how to take the front end apart and once I started it was hard to stop. It made pulling the motor so much easier.
Changes to new motor: Upgraded carb from 600 to 750cfm. Talked to Barry R at survival motorsports and after a lengthy conversation he persuaded me to upgrade. Luckily summit let me return the 600.
Painted all the brackets. Couple coats of primer then a few coats of semi gloss black.
Still want to have the inner fenders and core support blasted and painted.
After the motor is out, all that is left is to have the radiator cored/cleaned and the trans re-built. Once those are done, the rebuilding begins.
Here are the pics,
Before it’s pulled.
Almost out
Both engines
She’s empty
Harbor freight furniture dollies coming in handy…

Looking good! I know what it's like to have stalls in the progress. I keep at it though!

Re: Habu's 69 F250
Thanks I appreciate it.
One more piece of the puzzle.
Since the muffle cut up mine when I had the headers installed needed a right inner fender that didn't looks like crap-ola. Lucked out at the pick-your-part. Took some effort but it I got it out. Now just need to find a place to get the two inners and core support blasted and painted. Wouldn't mind doing them myself, but don't have equipment to do so.

Re: Habu's 69 F250
FWIW, if you have a decent air compressor, I've blasted and painted almost everything on my truck with one of these http://www.harborfreight.com/portable-a ... 37025.html and one of these http://www.harborfreight.com/20-oz-8-cf ... 67181.html I'm envious of that engine! That's one the missing big pieces of my puzzle. Great work you're doing!

Re: Habu's 69 F250
Is it just me or did your exhaust manifold/header bolt pattern on those heads change over night???? I see that the header bolts are in the top and bottom holes but it looks like more were drilled?

Re: Habu's 69 F250
I've been thinking of using my dad's compressor, it probably would work but I don't know the CFM it produces. Mine is a little 3 gal compressor enough for a nail gun for the honey-dew list projects I get from my wife. Thanks for the suggestion. Might to have to expand upon that later. Do you have to build a booth, how do you collect the media... I'm sure there is more. Much rather DIY it myself
No, they didn't change. The copper gaskets that I bought work for either 8-bolt or 16-bolt heads.... and I WISH I had a set of 16-bolt heads.

Re: Habu's 69 F250
I blasted my frame on my concrete and jump scooped back up with a shovel and poured it back in through the strainer that came with. Then I was using my 21 gal HF compressor. Had to wait and let it build up quite a bit but it got the job done. Since then I've gotten a better compressor. I did build a paint booth in the "basement" that I sometimes use as a blast booth by hanging plastic over the filters. Most of the time I "spray to waste" in the back yard hanging parts from a 2x4 nailed between a couple of trees. I like to use Black Diamond coal slag media from my local Tractor Supply. It's nasty to work with but doesn't hold moisture and clog up like sand. Its only 7.99/50 lb bag and comes in coarse, fine and very fine grit. I bet I've bought 1500 lbs of it but I've blasted every part on my truck over 2 years and most went on the ground.

The front end after marine clean & metal prep. Planning on testing the POR15. Not on everything but the parts that I'll never get to after the motor goes in

Re: Habu's 69 F250
So it's only a year later.....
Money, of course, slows things down a bit. That being said in the last year I've been able to acquire:
New Booster, Master Cylinder, SS lines from master Cyl to proportioning valve
Refinish intake and fix stripped heater hose inlet and water temp, surface the intake-to-head surfaces ($$), explains why the engine builder used so much damned silicone. Wish he would have just told me
Refurbish the driveshaft, u-joints and carrier bearing (new)
Refurbish the radiator
Rebuild the transmission. (This was the biggest hold up. apart from the motor the highest dollar item)
Remove and replace the heater core(this is a factory A/C truck... HUGE PITA)
Also purchased a Totally Stainless full body kit for the truck. All of the bolts for everything will be stainless. Paid more for the indented head, black oxide bolts for where they are black from the factory.
Stripped, POR15, primered and painted just about everything I could. The right way would have been to remove the cab and sandblast and paint but I don't have the money or space for a good enough compressor to do the job right. Win some lose some. It'll look so much better than it was for a little bit.
Last weekend my dad and I put the brakes back together bleed and got rid of the dirty brake fluid. Here is what it looks like before we started putting the motor back in
Once the drivetrain is in and running I'll do prothane bushings and the entire suspension next. Strip, POR15, primer and paint. I only painted what I would not be able to access once the motor was in.
Trans hooked up
Tried getting it in with the headers but that was a no-go.
Took them off and dropped it in.
Lotsa work in the last few months but today was the back breaker. Again without my dad I could not have gotten it done. Lots more little things now. The biggest is raising the motor again(ugh) to bolt up headers. Then it's the accessories and wiring. Hoping to fire it up in the next week or so.
