I've also dropped in a DOHC, but went with a T45 five speed. CVIFS and MN12 IRS. Not looking forward to the wiring either and I'm an electrical engineer...

Sorry elgemcdlf.... I put my IRS in 10 years ago, long before there was any "kit"...

No sorry to it. There are very few documented. When it comes to bumps I think only 1. Carcrafter used the IRS but almost no documentation. I am familiar with your truck but again have not found any documentation. Believe me I looked and looked when I made the decision to use the IRS in my truck. Dave Held had the best documentation I could find. Also few being driven. It is getting more and more popular though. I love Dave's kit. You could literally do the entire swap in a weekend using his kit. It also maintains all the original pieces from the donor car so future replacement if need be is a no fab operation. Granted when it comes to a frame you rarely make any changes during the life of a vehicle but the option is still there. Using Dave's kit with the CV IFS works well. Mounting the rear inside the rails will get the tail lower but then the front will be higher. To my knowledge there are only 2 trucks (bumps) with a MN/FN IRS under them older than my install. Carcrafter & you. Still makes me one of the first

I am wanting to see it driving. I love the late model engine/trans swaps even though I went with old style. I think it is sexy to open an old hood and see a late model engine complete hiding under it.

Yikes, fell back to the second page, but shaking the winter doldrums off and back at it. I have a question for the experts, I'm ready to cut our 67 longbed down to a shorty, does anyone have the exact measurements of what I need to hack out of the frame? Somewhere in the back of my brain I recall 16.2 inches from the frame rails, and that same amount from the bed in front of the wheels, then an additional 3.8 inches from the bed behind the wheels to make it a true shorty.

Am I on the right path, any help is appreciated cause my sawzall is itchin to get going.

hello fellow ford fanatics! I think we've reached the end of the road (for the time being). Till I get bored again. But now it's time to let the girl enjoy her truck, some cruise in's etc. Completed the frame and bed chop, the mark viii seems to be running good, the 4r70w seems to be shifting good, (does have a tendency for the converter to stay locked up when you get off the gas) and the crown vic fron suspension is handling great. Let the daughter get some more time with the torch, she has a good steady hand. We threw a 30 dollar John Deere low gloss oil base paint job on her to get us thru the summer. Many thanks to everyone here who gave us advice, encouragement permission to steal their ideas etc. I'll still be lurking and chiming in, there's so many great projects going on here one can always learn something.

Looks great man! One question though, what degree pinion shim did you use for the hanger flip in the rear?

Thanks guys. The emblems are just cheapo stick ons. IIRC it was a 4 or 6 degree shim. And it's not enough. I have to cut the pads off the axle and reweld in the proper position

Thanks. Were you running a two piece drive shaft since the truck was originally a long bed?

Yes it was originally a two piece shaft. I purchased the yokes online and bought 4 in diameter seamless tubing and made up the new shaft.

After looking at your pictures it seems you have the "thick" end of the shim towards the front of the truck which would make your pinion point up more? I always thought the thick end needed to go to the rear to push the pinion angle down to correct the pinion angle after doing the hanger flip? I'm about to do the hanger flip so that's why I'm asking so many questions. haha Thanks for the help.
