I'm joining the FORDification forums as I have just purchased my first little piece of automotive history, a 1970 Ford F250 Camper Special v8 360 with 60K miles. The truck has a 4-speed manual transmission and appears to be mostly original. The front brakes have been rebuilt from the master cylinder to the drum.

I have much to learn and hope to slowly begin to maintain the truck on my own, although I'm taking it to a local mechanic initially to ensure that all is safe and well and to provide me with a solid grounding point to proceed from regarding maintenance. He will check fasteners, change the oil/filter, transmission fluid, radiator fluid, check belts and hoses, timing, valves, charging system, oil pressure, brakes and other adjustment specifications. Is there anything else that I should have the mechanic check, specific to this model?
Also, I have ordered many quarts of Brad Penn 10W-40 Engine Oil, a Wix 51515R Spin-On Oil Filter, (8) NGK 2438 Spark Plugs, a Wix 33046 In-Line Fuel Filter and I am going to order a new air filter shortly.
Are there any other upgrades that owners generally make on these trucks?
Fortunately, the previous owner included with the sale of the truck the 5 Volume Ford Shop Manual series.
Thanks everybody.
