Low Mile 1970 Camper Special Ranger R-S 2014

Post by Boss429BumpSide »

Plan "A" 1970 F250 Ranger that has 54k orig miles to detail for the upcoming R-S Auction January 2014

Truck had been sitting since the 80's. Its now been on the road for approx 1yr

Very nice truck with original paint bought new here in Sunny Arizona. How the exterior paint survived this long is simply a miracle. Buried under junk in garage probably helped.

This is truck as Purchased. Note the original tires in box that did take air but after about 20' simply fell apart!

A bit of cleanup was initial thought. Typical for me to get a bit carried away not to mention this truck deserved a little sprucing up.

I really had no plans of pulling engine etc Now I am knee deep in alligators to try to get it back together in time.

Very nice and I have only started to clean~detail the truck.

Made a bit of progress over last couple weeks. . .

Backside the front fender looks new! Found a interesting Ink-Stamp on other fender.

Seeing though it was missing the tailgate I had a MINT one here so blasted it it and now in primer. Also blasted the fender aprons as battery acid both sides took off the paint and splattered from batteries being over filled at one time.

Also blasted the front of frame from cab mounts forward. Epoxy primed and painted. Pulled entire front suspension out for a bit of cleanup

The inside of this fender has only been cleaned. Not painted or touched up. Simply amazing to see how nice the sheet metal is on this truck!

Nice replacement fender was stripped and primed.
Blasted front of frame. I know I know, pull the cab and box and restore the truck . . . No time or $$ right now. Its just too nice underneath to really mess with.

I was able to get all surface rust off front suspension pieces without blasting them. Even the front springs came out looking good with factory paint markings etc.

Once it was all apart replaced the pivot bushings along with the radius rod bushings.

Pretty much everything in front suspension and brakes got a do-over. All cast iron pieces are natural color with no blasting etc. A fixed and flat clear was put on to protect them.

last ones were crappy cell phone pics. A few nicer ones with engine in place. Engine was done in PPG base clear once assembled.
