You're using the engine from the CV as well?? Details please! Trans/trans controller? Stock diet or aftermarket EFI? Leaving the stock rear? (you knew these questions were coming)

Plan is to use most of the P71 drivetrain. Buddy wants ABS  This is going to be daily driver so will be stock engine trans as of now. Planning on dropping rear of truck 2 to 4 inches. It is still going to be used so he dont want it slammed. Has anyone used the CV rear axle? Why does everyone use Explorer? Fabbing spring mounts will be no problem. Have Factory A/C off a parts truck to install. I think biggest problem will be speedometer. Not sure if there is an extension housing to use gear drive? This is a learning experience. Learn a little at a time. Building one for my self next year. :D

Guys usually go with the Explorer rear because the right axle code will get you 3.73 LSD. And - it's track width is much narrower than the '03 & up P71. (59.75" vs. 65.5") But if you use the P71 rear, the backspacing on your wheels will at least be the same as you'll need for the front.

Check with Dakota Digital for the stuff to hook up the speedo. They have a few options that may work.

Used stock transmission cross member with C6 transmission mount. We also used the center steering shaft and modified it with a grinder for it to work with a Borgenson joint. This is connected to a 1978 Tilt wheel column.
