Patrick, the '70 is looking awesome, great work! I totally understand your view on the 56, don't let these guys give you any crap! Idle hands are an impossibility around our house too, we gotta build something! Keep up the great work!

nice work on your project I like to do the tank swap and hope you can post pics on that subject. I know there are more post on this site about the swap but i like to see different ways of doing it.

If you guys have not seen the chassis for his '56 you really should check it out. The work on this truck looks nice but compared to what he has done on his '56! Thanks again guys! It means a lot. It's been a long strange trip walking around in my shoes! I've owned the '56 since I was 15 years old in 1987 (I'm 41 now) and I truly miss driving that truck like I've never missed anything else in my life (my grandma excluded ). It's been with me through 7 cities, 2 college degrees, 2 layoffs, and 2 divorces. Anyway, I've also fallen for these bumpsides and my '69 is decent but would take so much more time and money to make it 'nice' which is why I bought this '70 from a friend. I knew a bit of its history and knew that the truck was remarkably straight and very close to being rust-free. I had already built a new C6 and am currently in the middle of a not too wild but definitely not mild 390 that were both slated for the '69 but with the '70, I have a much better canvas to start with...aaaaand since my garage is useless right now, I can't work on the '56 so the '70 is going to be my 'nice' driver and I'll get going again on the antique when I'm done with my '70 and get my garage back. Man, if that '56 could talk!!!

One cab corner down, one to go! What fun! I had to form the inner patch...I hammered it out using a body hammer, dolly, and pliers. I only needed a small portion of the outer though so I've got some scraps to fill the bed's stake pockets and the fuel filler hole in the cab. This isn't my best work but at least it's in an area not seen well...it should still only take a thin layer of filler before priming it.

Here's a shot of the inner patch...looks a little crappy from the pic but it's butt welded and flush. I welded it from the inside and I'll touch it up when I get the cab laid on its back. I just checked out the driver's side closely and the inner corner is SOLID! I'll just need to do the outer.

I know I'm a few months back on this but playing with the idea of rewiring, There is a guy on HAMBS http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... bel+wiring that gives a discount on these. Be interested in what you think alot of people have agood opinion of them. Beats $700 for american autowires plug and play. Only thing left on mine plug and play would be lights.

I'm way behind schedule (my own self-imposed schedule) and it'll be a while before I get to the wiring but it'll be here when I do. I was attracted to this kit because it's made in USA with USA parts. I used an EZ kit in my '69 and have no complaints...just would rather support us is all.

Worked on my gauge panel a little today. I still need to modify and paint a bezel to bolt it into, install 2 green LED's for signals and 1 blue LED for a high-beam indicator, and build a wiring harness for it.

Nice so far and I really enjoy your pictures and descriptions of your work. Keep it up it is all appreciated and admired. I'm also working on a 1970 XLT short bed with a 390, it won't be as nice as your truck but it will be as nice as I can afford.
