Finished installing new polyurethane bushings in the leaf springs and added a flip kit after trimming and fitting the brackets. I still need to burn in some C-notches as well as the flip brackets and then spray the rear suspension and 9" housing with Rust Bullet. Tomorrow, I may dive into patching both rear cab corners if I fire up the welder.

Well, I cut into the cab today and what wasn't visible outside, showed itself once I started attacking it with the wire brush...I should have known. So, I need to do a little more patchwork but the good news is that the driver's side looks to be in better shape so far (crossing my fingers!). :D

I just want to file an official protest to this build. All it is doing is taking time away from that awesome '56. I say shelf this POS & get back at the '56. You tease with frame shots & then just let it sit.

Ha! The difference is that the '56 is going to take much more money and time to finish than this one will. Additionally, you may have noticed that I'm building this (so far) outside. The fact is, I don't have any room in my over-sized 3-car garage due to it becoming a storage for all of my wife's crap that doesn't fit in our house (she moved from a much larger house)! To her credit, she is slowly going through all of it and parting with much of it through donations, consignment stores, and just plain throwing it away. The '56 is surrounded by shhhhtuff! Even if I crammed everything over to one side, it's a lot of cardboard boxes which I don't feel like setting ablaze with my welder or grinder!

Believe me, I want to get that truck back on the road more than anyone...it will happen. I just can't sit still with idle hands so I'm building the '70 now. I don't mind working outside because my side yard is in complete shade most of the day and the weather has been great. Besides, this part of the build is the dirty, greasy, rusty, and messy part that I don't want on the floor of my garage anyway.

Well, it was 107 degrees today but I got the C-notches in anyway. I drank huge amounts of water and took several breaks and played with my 13 month old son in his little pool.

I like the fact that you are doing this in the backyard for the reason it shows you don't always have to have a well kept shop or garage. You have just removed excuses from others afraid to cut some stuff up. I really wish you were a little closer to me (if I was back in the states) cause I'm about to pick up a 67 project and thinking I could use that cab off your 70!!! It was a good looking runner too.

Thanks again everyone! :D

After I finished up the axle 'flip' and C-notches, I touched up the RB. Fortunately, the brake shoes look brand new and the drums look great other than the outside rusty finish. I'm going to disassemble the brakes, bead blast or wire brush the backing plates and the outside of the drums and follow it up with some fresh paint. Next up is fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, and cab corners...but who knows where my ADD will take me!

How much RB have you used so far? Just curious, I see it's a little pricey but if it works, well worth it.

Summit Racing has it on sale every so often and so I got a gallon for $140 (normally $175). So far, I've used about 2/3 of it and plan on using it on the bottoms of the bed and cab plus the firewall but then top coating those with the body color. The directions say to use it up within 4 months of opening the can. I think it may have an edge over POR-15 because it requires far less prep and is UV resistant so a top coat isn't required.
