Re: 67 crew driving project
Well, took my time and got the new bendix gear, new pump, lines and rag joint all done before I realized I have no idea where I put the ps belt So figured I would run it into town with no PS and do the belt in the parking lot. Took off, made it about 100 yards and she started cutting out really bad. So I hopped out and fuel is spewing out of the overflows on top of the carb.
I am thinking Ill install an inline gauge to check and regulate the pressure and a carb rebuild kit as I suspect my float valve is jacked. The new fuel pump I installed is just a stock replacement so I am sure it is fine and not running over 6-7psi but a gauge would be handy.
Anyway tomorrow is a new day.

Re: 67 crew driving project
Its official folks: Power steering appreciation week is over!
Turned the float level damned near all the way down so I could run the truck to town with no power steering for a carb rebuild kit and PS belt. Jacked the truck up at the parts store and bled the system once the belt was on, then rebuilt the carb once back home. The truck seems to be running much better. I should have rebuilt that carb a long time ago. I also put the float level back where it belongs and all seems well with no more flooding.
I am heading in to town this afternoon too for a new exhaust. That will likely leave my monthly crew budget tapped until next month, but I am pretty sick of this exhaust. The PO really hacked this one in using about 6 different pieces per side, clamps and coat hangers to hang. Anyway, going dual flowmaster 2 1/4". I like the old school glasspack sound, but I love flowmasters.
Quick question for you stock 352/360 owners. Where did you put the accelerator pump rod? The rebuild instructions did not have 67 352 specs. I went with 65 352 specs, with the 3rd hole from the bottom and inside hole at the AP.

Re: 67 crew driving project
I have decided against hauling the Jeep to Cali (Rubicon) with the crew. It has never been a bigger pleasure to drive with the new exhaust, ps, and carb rebuilt and fuel pump but I have not had the time to service the tranny or cooling system among other things. So I think I will go an alternate route down that way if a buddy can get his CJ6 put together on time. Otherwise it will be next year or bust.
In other news though, the old girl has never been a bigger pleasure to drive. Got the exhaust done for $125 with a pair of stick style mufflers off of a freshly restored chevelle (free) and 2.25" pipe from the down pipes back. She is really running great and although the exhaust is ridiculously quiet, I kinda like it. I imagine this is what it sounded like rolling off the showroom floor.
I need to pull the trim off the new door and start welding up the holes, fix a small dent and I should be able to mount the door up! The grill I think I will just sit on for now until she really goes under the knife. I don't want to chance screwing it up.

And two steps back, the new Bendix PS gear is spraying oil all over my engine compartment from the top plate gasket...

Re: 67 crew driving project
They certainly are aren't they?!
Well quick update.
On top of my steering woes the carb started leaking again. I bought another rebuild kit but ultimately did not need it. The accelerator pump diaphram was in backwards and a few other little things I messed up on the first time. No more cold starting issues or fuel on the intake manifold.
Next I took the old steering gear sector shaft out to see how it works. Then after a few tries I got the New Napa sector shaft out. The New sector shaft cover was completely shot and the slim chunk holding the O ring in came apart resulting in the massive leak. So I swapped the old sector shaft/top plate into the new gear with a new O ring and thus far order has been restored to my power steering world.
With all the issues lately leaving me stranded up on the property (read far from town) I have decided to go ahead and replace her with a newer rig. More on that later.
This may seem like a bad thing but it really is time for the real build to begin.I finally have the facilities and income to tackle this project. Once the replacement truck is in my life, I will begin the rust repair and begin saving for a cummins donor rig!

Re: 67 crew driving project
Ok quick update. Ran to town for a pallet of concrete mix and some diesel for the equipment.
Didn't quite realize a pallet is about 3300lbs. Although it had plenty of HP and brakes, the load was way to far to the rear and lightened the front end to make her wander even more than usual. After a brief stint on the highway, it was all back roads home. Glad the old girl is getting a workout before she goes in for work!
I had't really thought about it until I realized that load ways about the same as my Jeep in the background, hahaha.

Re: 67 crew driving project
Gotta love these trucks! I've hauled over 2000# in my F100. I think when Ford rated these trucks they did it for half of what they'd really do.

Re: 67 crew driving project
Well I hate to say it but the old girl is just not the right tool for the job. The driveway to the new job is just under a mile and steep/windy. In addition, I need to be able to haul a 14K trailer pretty regularly. The old girl has been great but it is time for her to go under the knife for the restomod she deserves.
So upon mentioning I am beginning to truck shop, the boss also mentioned he was truck shopping, so long story short we settled on a price and I am buying it in the next few weeks. Allow me to introduce you to White Lightining!
