i decided to start a new thread for my truck. she was rear ended this past weekend by a crackwhore with no insurance. pics coming soon in the general section thread i started.

I have a to do list for this truck that is long long long. i have neglected it due to my travels. i'm going to try to give it the attention it deserves.

to do list:
- replace the granatelli plug wire that broke, sleeve the wires and sleeve the boots with heat protectors and clean the spark plugs - even though i hate granatelli with every fiber within my body
- get tri y headers and full exhaust with a x pipe
- decide on a transmission - the nv4500 or a 6 speed - considering manuals only - suggestions welcome - even unique column manuals like the 6 speed from that japanese car, can't remember what it's called
- redo my seat belts, get some better shoulder strap seat belts or 5 points, anything to keep my tall ass in the bench
- redo my seat configuration, not sure what, should have head rests though, maybe a center storage compartment on a wide bench(that sounds nice), this seat configuration needs to be raised so that i can do speakers underneath the bench
- new steering column with tilt(this will be done at the same time as the transmission)
- vent the drums(get them drilled)
- replace power steering pump with saginaw and custom bracket (during transmission swap)
- add hydroboost (during transmission swap, can't decide if i should use my astro or my 75 grand marquis - the grand marquis bolt interface and the tail housing for the pushrod is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy stupid design(but is a ford part so nostalgia))
- change to a electric choke quadrajet since my carburetor is being held together down the center by glue
- install the headliner trim i have (not going to restore them yet, just want them up there)
- get a passenger mirror to match my driver (the regular chrome oem ones, not the big window industrial mirrors)
- replace my rear view mirror
- change the oil - i'm going to do this in the next couple days. it rained alot here and the rain reminded me how ***** the hood to cowl weatherstripping is - my piece thats barely 2 years old is already bad and dumped water on my air cleaner which went down the carb into the engine - so yeah time to change the oil. i'm now parking my vehicle with a tarp over the engine every time i park.
so yeah i have alot to do. i've been working on employment to try and get some dough rolling in. keyenergy gave me a false lead so back to applying. might start welding and fabricating for a props company. been applying to shipyards and gas/oil fields and technician work in the mean time. things will come together in time.

Well it’s been a little bit since my last post. The girl that ran into me is broke and penniless turns out and is going to be in and out of jail for a while so I just let the lawsuit drop. Needed to focus on other positive things. I’ve been intensively searching for some solid employment since I moved back and finally results started coming in all at once. I have three part time jobs right now to make ends meet and will likely be replacing them with 1 full time job very soon that will have full benefits and some savings options which will be nice. Havn’t really had a job that paid well with benefits before so it will be nice to consolidate my work into one practice instead of jumping all around in different things. I have been working part time with a fabricator. It’s not your normal fabricator. We do sets and props and other designs for events like plays, private patron events, movies, role play, catering and more. I took some pictures of the latest thing we did. We built a blimp inside of a warehouse and hoisted it up on the ceiling. We then installed some massive drapery to make screens for a flight projection. The patrons for valentines day flew(as in roleplay flying) to 6 different locatiosn including Rio, Africa, Rome, Birmingham, Paris, and I can’t remember the other one. We simulated their experience. We also constructed a estate room inside the blimp. They would go into the estate room and they could look out the window which was a screen simulating their flight. They had flight attendants, lighting, 1000s of dollars of flora for each location, a excellent caterer, a bartender with wines from all of the locations on their journey, 1000s of dollars worth of wine. We did more work than what I’m describing but it was really fun and cool.

Also started work with another company assembling and disassembling events. They mostly do concerts and private patron events. They do a lot of the same things the other company does but with a different style, less plays and more music themed, again mostly concerts. Here is a event we worked on for black history month. It was very nice. There were several thousand supporters at the event at the Sheraton Hotel. They had some excellent talented singers with tasteful bands covering some of the famous African American music from the past, mostly early 60s and prior songs. It was fun as well. Here's a pic.

Today I worked on my truck. It actually broke down on my way to my third part time job yesterday morning at 5am on the interstate. I’m still not sure exactly what happened. I want to say it’s the carburetor. I’ve been meaning to get one anyway since mine has taken so much abuse, I just have not been able to afford it or get around to it until now that I’m making some good income. The truck backfired so hard 2 weeks ago that the manifold backed the exhaust off the passenger flange and stripped the studs. I fixed that. It was a huge pain. I uninstalled the hood and had to stand on top of the truck with a breaker bar and jumped up and down on the bar to get the flange bolts out. Finally got them out and then get the new studs stuck a couple times. Finally got it all in and my new section of pipe and new studs and new flange after 2 days of frustrating slow labor. So this second time, the latest time, when the truck broke down on the interstate, it backfired again. There was flame coming out of the carburetor. At first I thought I had blown out a crucial shortblock gasket or something and caused a massive vacuum leak. But I got to working on it today and I’m fairly certain that it’s the carburetor. Couldn’t find any vacuum leaks anywhere from the intake down. Couldn’t really keep the truck running long enough though to be certain. I am almost certain that a massive vacuum leak developed somewhere within the structure of the carb though. Heard some nasty sucking sounds and viewed improper fuel delivery and my fuel lines are not clogged with anything and delivering plenty of fuel. It’s not the fuel pump either I checked. Remember the last time my original fuel pump went out and almost turned the engine into a shrapnel grenade lol. I always check the fuel pump now when anything goes wrong lol :lol: . The carburetor is definitely acting up though. For those of you who havn’t kept up with my Frankenstein build, I used a old school EGR plate to allow my carburetor to interface and to also allow for enough vacuum to go to all the parts of the truck needing vacuum. My carb doesn’t have enough ports. I also had to glue the carb down the center as it developed a nasty fracture. So I uninstalled the carb and EGR plate today. I have a quadrajet adapter plate and also the offset 14 inch air cleaner base. I’m ordering a carb from carburetoresmore . I think I’m going to go with the Holley H4V-13. Vacuum secondaries, electric choke instead of the manual which is what i had, and should be easier on the gas yet deliver what I'm looking for since it's a quadrajet. Hopefully. And it's a single pumper instead of the double pumper. I’ll officially order it tomorrow or possibly a different carb if they suggest one. I havn’t decided whether to get my original carb rebuilt as well or use it as a core. I’m very attached to it as it was a gift from one of my car hero’s Jerry Hallman.

Anywho things are going as well as they can. Switched over to my 79 monte carlo as a daily driver due to the car issues. Here are some pictures of it. Ive done too much work to list on it and it still isn’t that great, but it’s still a joy. I’ll keep yall posted on how this carb setup works.

been super busy with my new job. havn't had any computer time. worked on the ford this weekend some. i'm taking pictures and will post everything up when i'm done. i sent the old carburetor off to the carburetorsmore. i have no idea of the internal condition of the carb. i was sick of rebuilding it and fixing it and hope that it is restorable but i just don't know. they called me and told me they will be inspecting and working on it over the weekend and this next week. i told them that i'd just like it replaced with something identical if they can supply a carb or one similiar. i was complaining about lack of vacuum ports. i thought that i would switch to a quadrajet. i finally axed this decision. the 360FE is a fuel hungry motor. i had trouble getting the number 8 to fire without tuning the carb properly to dump alot of gas. and i was thinking, how the hell will the engine combust on all cylinders with tiny primaries. i decided to put the quadrajet conversion off for another day. i bought a offset air cleaner base and a formed lid to help force air through the carb. it's a 14" so i can use a k&n filter i have lying around. so i'll be selling the restored oem air cleaner i sand blasted and painted soon since i don't need it. it was causing alot of clearance issues anyway. so the motor is hopefully going to wind up with the ol school egr plate and a fully professionally restored 650cfm holley. actually it may be 625. and i think it's a single pumper although people tell me it may be a double. i'm getting a electric choke added to it. i thought it would be cool to have the choke pull in the dash and then changed my mind on that too.

so i pulled those awefully constructed granatelli wires off the truck and started rebuilding them. one of the boots was destroyed from the intense heat coming off the manifolds and the iron heads. so cut the ends off and put some new boots on. also heat shrinked some protectors to seal the boots to the wire on each side of the wire. and then slid some blue shields to go on the spark plug side of the boot to protect the wires from the intense heat. it all looks really pretty with the ford blue theme. i pulled the spark plugs out, and am cleaning the spark plug threads and putting heavy anti seize on the spark plugs. the looms had crappy screws i never should have used. had to drill some of them out. replacing the screws. and of course retune and adjust the carb and timing. also in about two weeks i'm getting a solid line made to connect the carter fuel pump to the carb and have a nice inline fuel filter to go there. i'm getting the truck in operational mode so i can finish moving into my new home and save a bit using my own vehicle. i'll post all the pictures of the work i've done when i'm through which will hopefully be in about a week or two. with my new job some of the things i've wanted to do to the truck are becoming more realistic. tri y headers with a crossover exhaust and transmission and saginaw p/s pump conversion are next on the menu. hopefully by july? still driving the monte carlo. its running like hell. will need to rebuild the motor and transmission soon. not sure what route i'm going to go. i have my dreams and then actual feasible budget so we will see.

been working on some other projects too. been working on my vegetable garden to help fight the food inflation. brewing fermented tea and stocking that away. also just bought a badass still. working on some whiskey and some fire water :D. also built some bitcoin mining machines. again to help curb the pains of inflation. can never be too prepared.

the rain is really putting a damper on my repairs. it's supposed to clear up this sunday. i should have everything buttoned up and running by sunday night. ended up just borrowing a trailer and a truck to finish my move. having a tough time finding replacement screws for the wire looms. a warning to those who want to use wire looms. if you get countersunk screws for fancy wire looms that have hex interface deffinitely throw those away and get something with a flat head or phillips. that's the way to go in my opinion. sooooooo for those of you interested i thought i would post the videos curburetorsmore sent me on my curburetor. good news here!!! my carb was restorable!! they did put a new top on it and cleaned my carb to a level it has probably never seens since the day it was manufactured. my jaw dropped when i got it back! i don't have any pics but i will post some along with everything else when the truck is buttoned back up. i may have another issue with the engine but i do not know. when the explosion happened i may have ruined something internally in the engine. i just really really hope it was the carburetor which was really gunked up and trashed from the bad repairs i did to it and the ghetto rebuilds with homemade gaskets, gorilla glue and whatnot. so yea the carb was sonic cleaned, then tumble cleaned with tiny rocks, and then they sprayed a "special secret" anti corrosive chemical on the carb that fights against rust and corn gas. I'M SURE YOU ALL HATE CORN GAS AS MUCH AS I DO. AMEN TO THAT. they bench tested the carburetor - a before and after. they replace the top of the carburetor which like i said was ruined. i'm glad they had a spare! very lucky on this. i also paid them to add a electric chocke because i didn't want to rely on a choke pull. Carburetorsmore also helped me identify a few things i was ilinformed and assumed wrong about my carb. First, it flows 625 cfm. also it has vacuum secondaries. also it is a single pumper, not a double. and also it is not as old as i thought it was. I believe he said it is a very early 80s or late 70s carburetor model.

I just want to say that carburetors more is a excellent company to do business with. I highly reccomend them to any of you who need a carburetor restored to a high quality with professional craftsmanship. You can speak with the man who bench tests your carb. very nice man to speak with. their business is in Texas. Just really great folks with great service. Thank you carburetorsmore!!!

i better hurry up get that timing cover gasket replaced so i don't get any fine oil drops slung onto the new carb :roll: :lol:

Congrats! I have also done business with carburetors and more, purchased a reman Holley 700 cfm, and found him to be friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The Carb was first rate! I highly recommend them.

it's been a bit. i got sidetracked with work. currently searching for a new job. had a bad situation at work. racist manager assaulted me and grabbed me by the wrist. was working as a u.f.o. tech at att. had a customer file a complaint against him and i couldn't take it any more and the assault was the final straw. so involved in a hr/union lawsuit nightmare. pretty disgusting. anywho the funds have slowed down and i had some big plans for this month but could not adhere to them unfortunately. I did finish some work on my truck recently though and just have not had time to post the updates. so i had to do alot of work to my motor after the engine fire. i put on the beautiful carb that carburetorsmore rebuilt for me. and also i had to reterminate all the wires. granatelli boots that come with the wires were dog crap. so i put new ends on almost all of them and then put some shields on them. also put seals on the female distributor side of the wires. i pulled the dui hei distributor as well. i pulled it because the darn engine was still spitting fire. remember when i complained about my engine almost detonating when the orginal fuel pump went out and filled the entire motor full of gas? well if dui hei were going to point the finger at something that caused their distributor to look like there had never been any grease within the unit, then that's the excuse they would give. I can't say for sure. But the distributor should have been fully greased for the money i paid. and the d. was nearly completely locked up. no evidence of any grease throughout the unit after complete dissassembly. and there were also marks where burning on the billet was beginning to happen from the friction. had i put another 500 miles or so on that distributor it would have locked up the cam gear for sure while i was cruising and then the lord knows what would have happened. probably chew up a cam and dizzy and ruin my rocker assembly and ... well you get the picture. had to take the dizzy to a close friend who had some special vices and jig and we forced the distributor shaft open. it was a mess. knicked the billet slightly from all the massive force that had to be applied but the knick is on the billet that appears right outside of the dizzy hole on the intake and will not affect performance thank goodness. it had to be done though. DUI HEI better start fully greasing their dizzys because if there was grease on it there was next to little of not any. everything is bolted back in with vacuum advance fully functioning finally. lol. i thought my vacuum advance was not up to par. sure enough my mpg has improved dramatically by about 4 to 5 mpg with all of my repairs. so here are some pictures for you folks. there is also a offset air cleaner setup i added. i'm going to throw a old k&n i have had lying around that fits it later. i'm going to do my darndest to get a nv4500, tri y headers, steering column upgrade and several other goodies soon. and a family neighbor has just aquired a fully restored inline6 i believe 68 or 69 white ford bump that is beautiful. i will try to get pics soon.

all that rust is from the water that keeps collecting on the intake when i forget to tarp the engine. lord i hate the cows weatherstripping. i'm on number 3 in 1 and 1/2 years now.

oh yeah i put a much heavier spring on there to get some better throttle response. and honestly the engine has never ran this great before. it is amazing. :wel: :fr: :thup: :woohoo:

also stock air cleaner is not the way to go on this distributor with a 4 barrel carb even with a riser. atleast i couldn't find a riser that would work with the oem air cleaner and allow complete linkage clearance on the carb. so just be prepared to get a offset base. plenty of cool 14' lids out there that will fit it.
