7 days ago I pulled a 1970 shortbed out of the weeds in a guys back yard, replaced condensor, points, starter, and battery and cranked it up and drove it home. 4 days it was sanded with body work completed. Yesterday it was painted massey ferguson grey on the bottom with the raised strip down the side painted black. The top will be painted white tonight. It has a 302 with manual 3spd relocated to a floor shifter. The holley 2300 on it needs a rebuild, and i'm going to have to shim the bed on the passenger side. I lowered it 4 inches in the front and need to have my ibeams bent, and have some fat rear tires on 10 inch wide deep well wheels that will be on by the weekend. All in all I work fast. I build ratrods typically but I have no experience with this 3 speed trans and I'm not a big 302 fan. With that being said I'm searching craigslist for a 429 and a c6 to transplant as I'm not big on shifting gears I like to get in the truck press the gas and smoke the rear tires all while holding my coffee. I guess the idea of having 360 stock hp out of a factory 429 just seems more appealing than spending $1500 on a 302 to get that much power and have to deal with everything that comes along with it after.
