Re: 69 F100 - Junkyard Engine Swap (with turbo :) - It runs, yay
Awesome project man, that's too cool. The 300/6 is actually a good motor choice to turbo. That truck will probably run really good.
I've always wanted to turbo the 300/6 in my 94 F150. This is making me want to do it again.

Yes, I've seen the Maverick, its pretty sweet.
So I've been tweaking and changing lots of stuff on the truck, but I made a video today of it driving, thought you guys might like to see.

I would also like to point out that guhfluh's comments earlier were right on. My intake modifications, while making the turbo plumbing simple/clean/cheap threw my airflow distribution way off. I've got another upper intake in the shop that I'm planning to put on when I my intercooler and more tubing arrive. It was a good experiment, and with further mods could be made to work just fine, but in its current form definitely not the way to go. The question I've been debating is weather to put a 460 throttle body on (in the stock throttle bock location), any thoughts?

Not much forced induction experience outside of diesels, but I have been led to believe (and my experience supports) that you plumb everything for the best off-boost performance and the added manifold pressure does the rest to a point.
When I'm designing an exhaust manifold, intake manifold, turbo piping or IC I always shoot for the smoothest, lowest bend count simplest design possible and just try to maintain crossectional area throughout the plumbing. I do find that "recommended" intercooler size for a given HP is about 1/2 what it should be in practice, but small ports and stock OEM plumbing components usually aren't the HP detractor or restriction they are perceived to be.

Last month I finished modding my Megasquirt (for now), and installed it behind the dash
And I added support for my down-pipe as well as installed a stainless Magnaflow muffler:

A couple of days ago I mounted an inter-cooler in the grill. Its a smallish one, but it fit well and will require a minimum of mods to get it working:
I also changed my grill for a ranger one that is in better condition and upgraded my headlights:

Just a note to say that I drive the truck almost daily now, back and forth to work. As I get free time at work I do small projects and larger ones on the weekends. I like the path of getting it going, and then upgrading it to where I want to be. I know people will say its more expensive and takes more time in the long run (and generally they're not wrong), but it works a lot better for my situation. I'm typically able to re-use just about anything valuable off the truck, so I don't feel money is wasted much, and I'm able to enjoy the truck even though its not "done". Just a glimpse of encouragement to anyone considering a daily driver project. It can be done, and be fun!

Great work, and I agree it's better for most people if they would keep their vehicles on the road while working on them in a conmstant evolution.
BTW, That's a cute tranny cooler you got there- Where's the intercooler?

I know, seriously, its a pretty small one. Oh well, at least it fit easily. After I measure how efficient it is, I'll have to see how to get a better/bigger one in there.

A first gen Dodge diesel intercooler fits easy enough. It's pretty small, but much larger than what you have there.
I don't see a massive intercooler being a performance detractor in any way. An efficient turbo should always work better with a larger IC given the volume of air they actually move. An extra cubic foot or two of volume makes no difference.

Ok guys, I took a quick run in the truck with Tuner Studio data logging turned on. Here is the result.
Here is the tuner file: http://www.wiricksgarage.com/public_pic ... ar_Run.msl
Here are some notes on the graph:
No boost controller - bottom side of wategate hooked directly to intake manifold
Ignition timing locked out (noted previously)
No intercooler
Run made in 3rd gear
from weather.com
OAT 51 degrees
BARO 30.26 inHg
HUMID 92%
