abyars. My OEM speaker was shot. I bought a 5x7 replacement speaker from http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm It fit the original mounting bracket and works like a charm.

When I got my truck it had a pioneer 8 track in it. Do you think it would work or should. I just leave it alone?

I'd give it a try.

Did this mod over the weekend. First time I tried it it didn't work. I think I left too much of the
ground wire exposed and the radio wouldn't even turn on. I took it out and redid it, this time adding
some shrink wrap to make sure everything was insulated. Put it back in the truck and works perfectly.
Thanks for the write up OP.

Gents,
I was reading this thread, and thinking "Why don't they use one of those jacks that have a pass through when the cable isn't plugged in, that way you get radio when no cable is plugged in, and mp3 when the cable is plugged in with no radio in the background?"
I went looking for the jack to post here, and found an article that includes the jack, and how to install it in a vintage radio.
Here is a link: http://www.spridgetguru.com/TA0041.html
Let me know if you find it helpful.
Cheers,
Duane
