Re: 69 F100 - Junkyard Engine Swap (with turbo :)
Casey,
I'm glad you like what I'm doing, I"ll do what I can on the info stuff, happy to answer whatever questions you (and others) might have. I'll have to wait on the write up, I've only got 2 days to go and the engine isn't even back in the truck yet!
It looks like your buddy put quite a bit of work into his setup, how does he like it? With mine, I console myself in the fact I have another 300 in the shop and most of the parts to build it right. My eventual goal is somewhere in the 400 hp range, this setup won't touch that, but it'll help get all the little things ironed out, and make the upgrade that much easier when I go all out.
I would think your 302 would be pretty straight forward to go fuel injection with, lots of available parts there, but of course one has to balance available parts with available funds. I assume it is the engine in the truck shown in your avatar?
Garland, TX huh? I went to school in Longview.
Anyway, off to bed. Had a great Thanksgiving with the familiy, back to the shop tomorrow

hes still messing with it right now. he had it running at one point but the mag was messing with the computer, so he built a hall effect trigger to replace it and is now running a individual coil for each cylinder. He had it all put together last time i was over there but haven't heard anything lately. I looks pretty cool. ill try and get a pic of it next time im over there. yup the 302 is in my bump. When ever i do Fi it i want to come up with a better looking intake than the stock 5.0 intakes. what made you leave Texas?

I left Texas for work, finally got fed up with that job after 8 years and moved back to where I grew up here in Oregon. It would be fun to see more pictures of your friend's setup sometime. I'm building a 302 for my front engine dragster and thinking about fabbing an intake for it, we'll see. I understand your opinion on the 5.0 intakes. Once I get this 300 running I'll probably change the intake on it too.
Progress today was slow but I actually got a fair bit done. The turbo is mointed, the wastegate is mounted, I built an adapter to put in-line with the gas filler for a fuel return. Its not going to be done tomorrow *sigh*, but I can put the engine back in the truck now, the rest of the things that need to be done will connect with the truck or be on top the engine.

Some picture of my fuel return fitting made out of a scrap filler neck and some 3/8" steel tubing.

Ok I wasn't able to get on the forums over the wekend, but I managed to get the engine and transmission in the truck, still a lot of wiring and fuel lines etc. to do but getting there. Managed to upgrade the clutch to an 11" while it was out.

Very cool setup, is that a PTO output he's got the "crank" trigger on?

Ok I'll admit to not being the best TIG welder ever, but I got a couple of hours to work on my truck today and started in on the intake manifold. I'm modifying it for a single barrel throttle body. I CNC'd out a flange and cut the intake all up. Didn't realize that the intake was "dual plane" until I cut the front off, so I had to cut the divider out too, will be interesting to see what effect that has.

Welded the side on the intake after work, then drilled and tapped for the throttle body. I put it back on the engine tonight since there's a storm coming and I'd rather not leave the intake open.

No more pictures yet, but I welded up the pipe between the turbo and the intake, along with machining the BOV flange and adding it on. Also got the fuel rail cleaned up, painted and installed. Small but substantial progress. Got my fuse/relay box in the mail today, excited about starting the wiring

i'm jealous. Especially in these cold months that efi would be awesome. I hate waiting on my truck to stop being grumpy in the morning.

What keeps you from installing fuel injection? I mean carbs are fun, but I do like the ease of tuning that injection gives.
