I can't seem to find the linkage, rod, etc. needed to connect my steering column to the transmission. Can someone post a picture of linkage for an auto column...are there differences between C4 and C6? What is the correct term for this part?
Thanks,
Gear Selector Linkage

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
I can let you know a bit about the truck and auto linkage as far as a C6 is concerned. The arm coming out of the side of the trans is truck only. If your trans is from a car you will need to pull the pan & valve body to remove the arm & replace. You will need to take a 7/8" flare nut wrench or make 1 from a box end to remove the nut. The linkage (at least from the cars I have seen) come off the column to a crossbar that reverses throw. The car will have the arm pointing upward. The truck is down. You can turn the car arm over so that it points down BUT it will block usage of the kickdown. This is currently where I am until I find the correct arm for the trans. The linkage from the column to the trans is also truck only unless there is some car out there that operates as the truck does. Kickdown rod from the carb to the trans needs to be truck. Car linkage will not work. It will not clear the firewall & factory accelerator linkage.

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
elgemcdlf: I just posted about another C4 trans that I found (and potentially buying in the morning). I posted pics in another thread, would you mind looking to see if the linkage is setup for truck or car? Thanks!

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
truck shift arms pointed downwards, cars could go either way depending on whether or not they were column or floor shifted and whether they were cable or rod shifted
theres some variance in the length of the shift arms depending on the original application as well.... i had to lengthen my shift arm (84 mustang floor mounted cable shift) about 1 or 1 1/2"

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
So, if I get this correctly, my C4 should have the correct arm for a truck? I have no idea what it originally came out of. Pump casting is a '76 model.

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
that looks like the right one,if the hole in the arm is about 3 1/4" center to center from the nut attaching it to the trans you'll be saved from alot of messing around

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
Well, I actually took the linkage off a c6 and made it work on my c4. There was slight modification in drilling a hole and running a cotter pin through it, but it worked like a charm.
