Does anyone have pictures of the BW overdrive cable?

Post by pelesl »

I am having trouble with my Borg Warner overdrive. Every test I do on it it seems to pass but then when I drive it, it won't shift. Now I'm thinking maybe my setup with the manual lockout cable is interfering. My truck had the cable ripped off and nothing on the lever on the transmission so I drilled a hole through a 1/2" bolt and sort of hooked the new cable through it. I didn't really like how it ended up and it's really tough to pull the cable out at the dash. I'm wondering if anyone has pictures of how the cable is routed to the transmission and how it hooks on to the lever.

Do either of these help at all? The second one show the lever attachment.

I know there's at least a dozen guys on here that have the OD tranny, maybe one of them will pipe in soon too.

Thanks basketcase. Indeed the bolt 355480-S (and all its associated bits) from the second picture is what I was missing. So I just took a 1/2" bolt and drilled a hole through it so I could pinch the OD cable by tightening the bolt and nut to the lever. But that didn't work so well, because I get less resistance on the cable if this bolt is allowed to spin. Not sure what 356288-S is; maybe this thing is allowed to spin on the shoulder of the bolt?

The other thing that surprised me is that I read that one bracket for the OD cable mounts to the top solenoid bolt. My truck also had one on a cross member just forward of the clutch lever. This results in a pretty sharp "S" bend (which seems necessary to avoid shifting linkages, etc.) but it makes the cable hard to pull.

I'm not very happy with the cable. I'm going to pull it out, re-trim it, lube the hell out of it, and make a little swivel for the lever.
