Looking to go Tremec on my resto/rod build

Post by 69rangerf100 »

So here are the specs on the current setup

Engine - 6.4 390 30 over
Trans - 3 spd manual
rearend - D60 5 lug 3.54 gear

What i am thinking is going to either the 5 or 6 speed Tremec so that i can try and get some better MPG out of it.

So here are my questions that i am not sure of how to figure out so that i get the correct tranny.

1. How do i figure out the length on the input shaft or does anyone know what it would be.
2. With the spline count what is the typical count used.

Am i forgetting anything that i may need to know?

I'm planning on a Tremec TKO-500.. you'll need a 1-1/16-inch, 10-spline input shaft, a Quicktime bellhousing, and a new clutch.- mechanical, cable,or hydraulic.. and the commensurate driveshaft modified for your application - short bed or long bed.

With a 0.68 overdrive (5th gear), you'll need to run a 4.10 rear gear so the final drive equals 2.79 which is an excellent highway gear. A 0.68 with a 3.50 pr 3.54 rear gear calcs out to about 2.40 which is waaay to low for the typical FE.

The cost will be around $4000. Contact Hurst Driveline Conversions for tech help. http://www.hurst-drivelines.com/?page_id=1014
