Shift problems

Post by Dano9061 »

Hello guys I'm an old member that just got back on I used to own a lowered flat white 68 with dodge steelies. The truck has since bin sold and I purchased a new 70 swb custom with three on the tree. I trailer it home and I bin struggling for about two weeks because my shift will only go up and down which is reverse and first but doesn't move forward and back to the other gears. I've looked and can't seem to find exactly where the write up for this is which I remember there being one. Any help will help. Truck has no power steering.

Maybe one of these will help:

I would also start by unhooking the linkages at the tranny and verify if the linkages will shift there first, (without the linkeage hooked up). This should narrow it down to either a column or transmission issue. Typically it's gonna be in the column itself though.

Remembered right after I posted this morning. You probably also want to look real close at the cab mount on the DS front. This is also another issue with our trucks that will cause the shift linkage to get fanatical. If the cab mount is deteriorated, (rusted)-the column will be misaligned and this will also cause the linkage to bind.
Hoping for your sake this is not true!
