What year axles will fit my 69 F250 Highboy

Post by booblinker »

I locked up the axle on my highboy, I need to scour craigslist to find an axle. What years will fit? I have found some ford axles with the right gear ratio and lug pattern, just want to buy something that will bolt in relatively easily.

No one? I can find 70's axles, will those work, or will I need to move the leaf mounting point?

I think up to 77.5 dana 44 will work. obviously 67-72 should be completely bolt in. the later axles might need minor stuff like brake lines? im kinda guessing but should bolt in. Ive got a complete axle sitting in the barn but as well im kinda far.....

Well doesn't matter now. Had it towed from the mechanics, he couldn't get the axle shaft that was locked up off. He tried an air hammer with the bolts outta the flange and it wouldn't come out, so I was gonna find a whole used axle to put in myself. I decided to try myself, I unbolted the 8 bolts in the flange, put it in granny gear, let out the clutch, and ping the axle shaft came undone and shot out over a foot, almost hit my truck beside it(Took some big block torque to get it out). The spindle nuts came loose, and jammed against the axle shaft. I got it all apart, luckily all I need is bearing and races. Inner bearing spun, but luckily didn't mess up the spindle.
