The Hydro-boost system was taken from a 97 or 98 GMC 2500 4x4 pickup, along with the pressure lines which were adapted to my Ford line fittings by a company that supplies hoses and fittings for the transportation industry. (18 wheelers). I had to shorten and re-weld the rod to hook up to my stock brake pedal, and fabricate a new mounting plate to fit the original bolt holes on the firewall. When running the return lines to the pump, we added a second line to the back of the metal canister that encloses the P/S pump, so that flow would not be restricted. The proportioning valve is a new 73-79 disc brake unit that was purchased from a local brake supply dealer. Like others have reported, this upgrade is one of the best for our trucks. I have power drums on my 72 F100, and this 71 is much better in the stopping department, with only a light touch on the pedal. Hope this helps, Mike.

We upgraded the wheels and tires this week, with refinished Factory Ford rims and Cooper radial tires. I have never run Cooper tires before, but they were the only ones I could get with whitewalls. My son used a spray paint remover on the rims to soften the coating, and then used a power washer to blast the finish off. After a coating of Auto-sol polish, the came out looking new again. These are the before and after pics of my '71. Click on the pics to enlarge.

I think that the deeper offset of the newer rims make quite a difference. Any thoughts? I normally like the black wall tires, but the white wall tires make a big difference with this colour of paint. Mike.

The paint is the straight Wintergreen formula with nothing added. Mike.
