72 f100 is alive

Post by wndsofchng06 »

Well after fighting with the ring gear, then an awful time getting the trans back in....now cussing the previous owner for using headers that "hug" so tight the right side has to be put on simultaneously with the starter......hard with only two hands, and it touches the starter ever so slightly..... not sure I can even get a heat blanket in there.... off to the exhaust shop I go.... see if they have a way around this. Whoever did this build really "rigged" a lot of stuff. I bought into more work that I original saw when I was drooling and awe struck as I handed over my cash. HA HA HA HA I'm sure I'll work through it.

You can go back and edit your original post title by going to that first post.
I'd always loved headers, (the power-the sound) but chose this time to skip them due to the hassle of most not fitting right. :(
But I bet it sounds awesome once your exhaust shop gets the duals on it!

Title fixed. Thanks!

She sounds awesome as is. She's got 3" dual straight pipes all the way back to two Magnaflow mufflers. I am just worried about over heating the starter, so I need a better solution, at least for that side. I drove it yesterday though and it will bark the tires in all four gears (I try to avoid 1st though, it's a granny and will break my neck without a load on the truck!). There's some issue with the turn signals not flashing when brakes are applied or headlights are on... wiring issues always suck!
That's all for now.

I am loving my truck! Got a guy that's going to put an extra bend in the header to get it off the starter, and I gotta pull the rear out to put a seal around the housing but I'm having fun with it for sure. Once I get the header square and it will actually join the pipe correctly, it will be a ton more fun to drive, as it is I need aviation style ear muffs!

Header is fixed, rear end is re-done, now its time for some paint and body I guess. To the guys who have emailed in response to my parts wanted ad, thanks, I've not forgotten, just had to get the issues that affect road-worthiness done first! I saw a brown 72 on Hwy 74 west bound in Matthews, NC today, is that anyone on here??

Curious, what did that cost to get the header fitted properly? I do want to get headers for my 351C at some point and I know there are very few that will fit as is and thinking maybe just grab whatever and have a shop make the appropriate changes...

OH boy.... I'm in it now.... pulled the motor, pulled the front fenders and found some rust. I pulled the fenders because I got some better ones... in the passenger side rad support by the mount to the frame, and the box against the firewall on the passenger side.... I assume is part of that air vent in the kick panel. well, I can't just mount the new fenders, guess Im pulling the front clip entirely

Easy jobs turn into big jobs. At least you won't have to bleed the brakes!

LOL yea right? I'm sure I will somehow! still disapointed in the complications for diesel. I figured it would be much easier than a "50s" truck....
