Re: 67 Shortbed 2WD Rebuild
Outstanding!!! It looks like you've used the cork front and back intake gaskets??? It's of course up to you but I would strongly recommend NOT using them...Instead, put a 1/4" bead of silicone on them and let it tack up a little before installing the manifold. This will save you from a headache of an inevitable leak...FE's and pretty much any motor commonly leak here. Another thing that I usually do is put dimples along the rails with a sharp center punch and a light tap with a ball peen hammer. This gives the silicone 'grip' and keeps it from pushing out like the cork and rubber gaskets almost always do (or at least leak). Below is a pic of my stroked small block. If you look closely, you can see the dimples along the front and back rails.
Anyway, your progress is looking real good and I can't wait to see more!

This truck is looking very clean. I was just curious, what was your dad welding on the frame?
Keep up the good work.

Re: 67 Shortbed 2WD Rebuild
Yeah, I went with the cork... I know, black silicone is on top and bottom of it, but it will be replaced. My money for this build was limited so a cheap Mr. G rebuild set was in order . And the intake and block was tapped, but something was needed because the space in the intake to deck was more then expected. The deck had been shimmed at some point already.
And someone tried too pull something with the frame and it pullout a hole in the front of the frame. My dad welded it back and turned it back to good as new.

Project Update - 9/4/2012
Ok did some more engine work today and started to rebuild the distributor.
Got care package from LMC, got engine compartment rubber like the hood to cowl gasket (Thanks for the tip Basketcase0302) and some random seals and hood bumpers.
Replaced all of the internals.
Here is a almost finished project, gonna polish it up soon.
New Plugs.....
Water punp, Fuel pump, and Oil filter arm/Oil filter CHECK.

Interesting. I usually drill 3/16" holes about 1/4" deep in the aluminum intake ends and then fill the holes with silicone before running the bead on the block surfaces.F100builder wrote:...Another thing that I usually do is put dimples along the rails with a sharp center punch and a light tap with a ball peen hammer. Well its been a crazy week so lets get started.... It started bad last Monday. So some back story, I started this build with the thought in mind that a friend of mine had a "recently rebuilt FE C6" he was sending me. So I was super excited when I got it in.... But this is what I got.
I think this picture speaks for its self why it wont work
Anyways, got a care package from Denis Carpenter, so I started the heater rebuild.
And I also got my flex plate from summit 2 days ago.
Almost finished the dumb Clutch/Break conversion.
The fun stuff will start by the end of this week when I get my NEW transmission. I hope im about 2 weeks out on this project.
