just another SWB bump

Post by Eric L »

so this time last year i wasn't working.. this meant I had a lot of time to start projects, but then I went back to work and my bump stepside project ( http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=56510 ) hasnt progressed at all.

then I found this '68 F-100 that needed a home.. and its red..I'm partial to red.. she's not nice enough to make something fancy, but too good to part out.. lots of parts to use on other trucks around here too.

specs as i got her:
FE advertised as a 390 :? that ran but poorly
T-18 that will go to a Jeep project I have going
Dana 60 rear that will go to the stepside.. ratio not yet determined
Power steering and Power brakes (both recently "worked on" hard to say "rebuilt", but lots of fresh parts installed)
inop A/C that will become an air compressor for my '70 4x4

Plans:
6 cylinder
T-170 O.D. trans
3.70 9 inch
daily driver..shooting for 20 mpg

turns out my 300 was really a 240, which meant I had 2.. took em both apart and used what I could to try to make one good engine.. had almost everything except a good set of pistons laying aound.. found some flat top silvolite's in .030 and with my extra 240 head calculates out at about 8.5:1. had an Isky 256 cam here too, so figured I'd try it.

nice work so far keep it up

if i was you i would get a set of efi exhaust manifolds off a 300-6 they bolt right with very slight amount of grinding on one tab (you would see what i mean if you did it) then run dual 2inch exhaust system

heres a picture of the exhaust on my bronco

Thanks

regarding the exhaust, id probly do it if I had a set laying around, but id dont, but i did have the full flowmaster system off my wrecked 72

I've been busy on this project and have been driving it for awhile now... just turned 3k miles on the new engine and she got her first oil change today. I have a few pics that i've taken during the project.. i'll kinda try to post 'em up in order when I can get 'em resized

about all i have of any interest at the moment.

now that I can get 'em posted I'll get more soon

a few weeks ago I went thru the front suspension..including king pins, and shocks all the way around.. made a huge improvement.
waiting for the correct ign switch to show up, but I did install my new glove box and added some tie downs in the bed.

I try to do something on it every weekend.

downsized to 235/75-15 tires from my wrecked '72 (good summer tires) and she climbs the hills better, fuel economy went up a little bit too... currently getting 17 mpg after my small speedo error is factored in. (its 5% off.. reads fast just a bit)
