My "Wintergreen" 71 F100 SB Sport Custom - More pics added

Post by 72sportc »

After being forced into early retirement due to the quad bypass thing, I spent the next couple years restoring a truck that I have owned for a long time. Other than the replacement of floor pans, body mounts, and Imron paint job, all the work was done in my home shop with my son's help. I have made many upgrades to the truck which include disc brakes, hydroboost brakes and steering, AOD transmission, mustang gas tank, tilt steering column, 3pt seat belts, with new or rebuilt parts. I was not sure about the color when I picked it, but after attending several cruise nights, I had a lot of good comments on my choice. I have driven this truck almost a thousand miles since completion, with no problems. I have gotten many questions when filling the tank at the rear of the bed.

Toyotas have to stay outside when you have three Ford trucks in a two car garage.

Very nice! How does the AOD behave behind the inliner?

Thanks guys. The AOD works just great. I used newer style cable linkages for the shifter (which made it smoother shifting) and the kickdown cable to the carburator. It took a little testing to get the shift points right, but now works very good and downshifts as soon as the pedal is pushed down. At highway speed, there is a noticeable difference in RPM when going into or out of OD. The nice part about the cable shift is that there is no "clunk" when shifting the selector lever. Mike.

Cool stuff. One day when I have tons of disposable cash I'd like to have a stout AOD built that would handle the heft of my crew. 8)
