Axel Help

Post by lpatterson152658 »

Ok I am having trouble finding a set or rear axles for my 68 F100 project. The rear end I pulled from the truck was 28 spine single traction, the housing I was told came from a 66 model. I got a god deal on a posi chunk that’s a 31 spine. My question is would I need to order a set of custom axels or is there anything from the junk yard I might check? I was thinking they would be a common axel but after a visit to summit and a few other parts stores am beginning to think otherwise. I have attached a copy of the info I put on a Moser order sheet. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're VERY lucky, you might find some 31-spline axles in some of the later (71-72) bumps. Needle-in-a-haystack kind of thing.

Best solution, IMHO, is to find a 73-79 housing with 31-spline axles.

The housing is 4" wider, which will put your rear wheels in line with the front (2" extra on each side). :hmm:

All you'll have to do to make it work is relocate the spring mounts, which will cost a LOT less than having custom axles made. :D
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!
