Shift linkage/indicator for AOD w/column shift

Post by robwymer »

I have a 1967 F-100 with a 240/300 inline and a NP-435 tranny (floor shift). I bought a 302 and AOD from an '84 Towncar. I will be running a carburetor. Since I knew I would be replacing the column, I went ahead and picked up a Saginaw power steering gearbox from the salvage yard. So now, I am looking at buying a nice tilt wheel/column shift from a late 70's Ford truck. What linkages are needed to make the tranny function properly? Do I need to change the shift indicator on the late 70's truck column?
67 F-100 Flareside, 300, Offenhauser 360, Holley 390, Duraspark and MSD ignition, NP-435 4-speed, 3.55 Dana 60, and it will absolutely roast 30" rear tires taking off in 2nd (the one time I tried scared the Bejeezus out of me)

Next engine mod: RV cam (252*)

i am unfamiliar with aod trans and towncars. you will probably have to mix and match linkages to make everything work is my guess.

Sorry I wasn't clearer. The 302 and AOD came out of the 1984 Lincoln Towncar. I want to swap them into my 67 bumpside.

i know i am just unsure of the lenght of the shift rods you would need until it is installed then i would have to measure it all up and then start trying the rods i had laying around . if those didnt fit i would have to start looking for one off of other stuff.

What about the shift indicator? Do I need one with P-R-N-D-3-2-1?

Not sure about the Towncar - it was just a donor. I am seriously looking at a column from a late 70's Ford truck with column shift for an automatic (not overdrive) and just want to make sure I can make it work.

For the AOD the standard shift pattern P-R-N-D-2-1 will work... Here is just one article on a quick search... http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80184
I was looking at this at one time and looking at aftermarket shifters and the ones for C6 and C4 would work...

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

Thanks for the advice. I'll try the cable shift to see how it works, if it doesn't work, then I'll make a trip to the salvage yard and hunt for a 1980's LTD/Lincoln/Grand Marquis with AOD. Unfortunately, the tilt column is sold already! Oh well, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for another tilt column. :fr:

The 85 vans have a overdrive in them and the the indicator will work with the 78/79 tilt wheel. The only differance is the o around the d, I got one when I was going to install the cleveland with a aod but i still like the 460.
