Difference in van and truck C6's?
Found a deal on a C6 that has been rebuilt. Asked the guy if it came out of a truck just to make sure the linkage would be the same. He said he thought it came out of a van. My question is there any difference in linkage between van and a truck C6? Thanks

Re: Difference in van and truck C6's?
The shifter lever on the outside of trans is diferent on a van. No problem to switch to your truck lever- just take the 5/16" nut off, pull lever, and re-install correct one. I had to do this for the shifter and kickdown on my son's truck. It's no big deal. Bigger issue is the nuetral safety switch. Make sure you hook it up if you aren't the only one who will ever drive the truck! Moms/wives etc have an attitude about vehicles that start in gear...

The shift lever may be different but some are the same. They do not bolt on from the outside and changing them is pretty irritating job as you have to drain the trans and remove the valve body to get the the nut off of the shift arm. The kickdown lever does bolt on the outside with a small nut but that won't be any help if you have to change the lever for the shifter. Hawkrod

Is there anyway to distinguish a truck from van shift lever without dropping the pan and valve body?

You will want to check the rear yoke. If you are going to put it into a LWB truck, you will need a yoke for U-joint which would be the front part of a two piece driveshaft. For a SWB truck, you would want a slip yoke in the back.

Fortunately that does not matter you can go either way and Ford did originally. Any good driveshaft shop can make what you need. The 70's trucks very often had two piece drive shafts with slip yokes and are a great place to get a core to fit your app. Hawkordflyboy2610 wrote:You will want to check the rear yoke. Yeah mine is swb im going from 3 speed manual to a C6. I figured I would have to get my driveshaft cut down to size.

Did you buy the entire driveshaft like this or get a kit to do this?

It's an exact replica of my original driveshaft, only 1" shorter because I lowered my truck. I had it made.cole71 wrote:Did you buy the entire driveshaft like this or get a kit to do this?
Here's the original shaft...
