C6 Vacuum line

Hi,
So I had my C6 rebuilt about 3 months ago and when I'm driving around on my 31's I used my GPS to figure out that i could cruise at 50mph at 3000 RPMS, Shortly after when it got cold, below freezing, it started to sound different when it shifted into 3rd and at 3000 RPMS i lost about 12 MPH. The transmission shop said that 12 mph wasn't a big deal and that it is probably the rubber vacuum line sucking shut. Does this Sound right? If so he said I should cut out the hose except for about 2" on each end and then tie in a copper or braided brake line, what parts would i need to do this?

Ryan do you mean 12 MPG or 12 MPH like it got 12 MPH slower? And yes the vacum line on our C-6's should be a hard line except the described 2" on each end where it connects to the modulator valve and vacuum source.
Keep in mind you can almost buy the steel line cheaper but here's a replacement for our C-6's:

12 miles per hour slower. I am gonna head to NAPA today to see if i can get a hard line to install. I cannot wait to have one shipped out. also my transmission guy said i could just get copper brake line and slide it into the 2" end on each side and hose clamp it in, does that sound like it would work, even if it was just temporary?

Yes it will work in a pinch. The copper won't hold up to all the vibration our trucks go through, (hence why the factory runs steel line-and the cost factor). You could actually buy an ice maker installation kit form home depot or lowes or ace and use the 1/8 copper tubing in it for a temporary fix. But it would be money that could be spent toward steel tubing to properly repair the line.
I'd go with NAPA and see what they have on the shelf for steel line. :2cents:

Ok, Like just steel tubing or braided steel line? I got 1/8th" copper tubing, but is that thick enough for the airflow needed?
I have to go return stuff at NAPA tomorrow so i can see if they have steel tubing.
Otherwise since its dumping snow and super cold here i may just take it to the shop :( but would prefer to not have to.

Ryan, the original stock steel line is either 3/16" or 1/4", I can't remember which?
Maybe someone else can chime in here on that. :hmm:
The 1/8" copper will work "in a pinch"-as I've done it before. :thup:

I bought and installed a Polyeurathane pinch free line and it seems to be working.

auto parts store, get brake line, Bundyflex if they have it, you can make pretty sharp bends in this type line & it is not expensive.....Donnie
