Accidentally shifted into reverse...
As the title says, I was doing about 30 mph, when I meant to shift into neutral to slow down, and hit reverse instead. It's a C-6 and the truck's a 250. it stalled the engine, and smoked the tires, but didn't make any other noises. Truck started back up fine. Did I really break anything? I feel like an idiot after doing it. I needed a new trans anyway...

Normally it just locks up the tires and stuffs your chest into the steering wheel....oh yeah, and soils yer shorts.

More damage to pride on this one than to the tranny. I am sure that woke you Somewhere along the way we have a bonehead mistake in one form or the other so don't feel bad

Well if you broke anything you would probably already know about it. I have done that in a 65 Skylark GS in my younger years. I made the shifter myself and it didn't have any lockouts, or other safety features. tranny always survived, but really scary at high speeds and hard on u-joints and your pride.

Really hard on the rest of the drivetrain. Almost drove through a bar one time (hadnt had a single drink and wasnt going to) when my brakes failed. Shifted into reverse, prayed it would grab soon, and cleaned out my drawers later. About 6mths later I had to put in a new rearend but think that had more to do with my lead foot.

Hey thanks for the replies, I feel better now. Yeah the truck seems fine, shifts fine and everything. As for why I shift into neutral at lights, it helps keep the engine running when it's cold out and the choke hasn't fully come off yet. Also it lets the engine slow down quicker, and not wobble while in drive with the brakes on. It needs new engine mounts so that the header collectors won't run into the cross bracing.

You should probably try and fix those issues as shifting an automatic into neutral (coasting) can be dangerous and is even illegal in some states!
