changing to an aod transmission from 3spd c6

hey guys i have a 70 ford f100 with a 360 and a c6 auto but im wanting to go with a four speed tranny and i dont know any that hook up to the 360 without a very expensive adapter plate. so im wanting to go with a 302 and an aod tranny maybe, my question is can i hook up the aod to any 302 or does it have to be of the same year? or what are engines that an aod will bolt up to? thanks any input would be helpful.

Aod's will bolt to the 240 and 300 inline 6, and small block v8s. Year doesn't matter.
