Awesome! thanks, I may have pictures tomorrow for you guys to see and judge about the rear end. Whats the difference between a Dana 66 and Dana 60? I had a guy who wanted to sell me a Dana 66 for my truck but never got around to contacting him back due to lack of funds at the time.

...hmmm...Dana 66? I've see a few Dana 61's...never heard of a Dana 66?!?

Did this guy mean a Dana 70 maybe?

...well I'll see if I can find out anything on this elusive Dana 66...just don't hold your breath waiting for me

Your best bet is to stick with a Dana 60. Easier to get parts for than a Dana 70 plus it'll bolt in and you can use your u-joints.

A couple of Goggle searches turned up nada...

On one Jeep forum (don't remember the site's name), a guy said his truck had a Dana 66 rear axle but it turned out he had a Dana 60...

...the quest continues...

I think maybe the guy did confuse the Dana 70 for the Dana 66, I've also been on google and I haven't found anything. I can't find the email either, well I didn't look too hard.

Just a minor point, the gear ratios should be close but Ford did mix ratios because of source applications. You will often find 4.10 on one end and 4.11 on the other. The 4X4's were not meant for dry highway use so it wasn't an issue because stock tires were low friction and the 4wd was supposed to be used in low friction situations (which was the point of 4X4 back then!).
