wheel bearing torque
I have a 1972 ford F100 4x4 that I'm changing the front wheel bearings in. I know how to assembly and tighten the wheel bearings, but once you loosen them back off what do you torque them to ? It has Q78x12.50x15 tires on it and would like to make sure I have every thing right on it be for I take off. Thanks for the in put

Re: wheel bearing torque
I'm sure some where there's a torque spec in inch pounds.
But lacking that you go by feel, but not knowing what it's supposed to feel like is tuff.
I was taught to put two fingers on the wrench next to the nut and push down.
You won't be able to over tighten them that way,(unless you're a sumo wrestler) .
Too loose is better than too tight. What you should do is spin the wheel by hand and tighten and loosen the bearing a few times. That will help you feel the drag also.
Now after that put the lock ring in place, make sure to line the pin into the hole, you may need to turn the nut a little.
then install the lock nut , is should be made fairly tight.
