Hello all-
I'm in the process of a 2wd to 4wd swap and have decided to use the NP 435 from the 2wd (because it looks like it's in better shape and I trust it).
I have removed the tail extension from the 4wd NP435 and I am assuming that the large nut that holds the u-joint yolk onto the output shaft preloads the output bearing? I could be totally off on this, but anyway I'd like to know the torque specs for the nut. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!
The swap is going well so far...

Re: np 435 2wd to 4wd question
No, there's no preload in old iron vehicle transmissions. There are clearances to be concerned with, but nothing involving the rear yoke.
A good rat-tat-tat 2 second burst from a highly calibrated Mac 1/2" impact at 160 PSI is what I prefer to use.
Don't forget some RTV under the nut so you don't lose your oil.
