Christmas gift for husband
I am not sure what I am looking for. I do know, must men do not want shirts or underwear for Christmas. They either want toys or parts for their toys. Well you guys have always help me before in the past. So here is my problem.
We have a '63 Galaxie 500 Box Top. It is a 390 stroked to a 432? It pushes almost 625hp. He wants to push 650. We have a stock rear end now. Ford 9" 350. I know he wants a 411 possi. Right now it is a 28 splin. (which I thought was stupid.) So he did get different axles to make it a 32 slpin. Where and what do I get. Do I get a different third member? Gears? What???? I am looking at Summitt and Ebay. Any help would be GREAT!

SWEET car. If'n it were me, I'd get somethin' like this...> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DTL-187SL17B/ and this...> http://www.summitracing.com/parts/STR-RS07890411/
Maybe it'll give you an idea of what this stuff costs (kinda pricey) and you can get him a Summit Racing gift certificate so he can pick 'n choose.
Either way, what an awesome girl you are to think of something like this
I think you meant 31 spline?

Depending on why he does with the car he may be able to use a full spool. http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrain-a ... f285-2011B Pretty cheap. im planning on getting one sooner or later.

What we are SUPPOSE to do with the car is a Sunday Driver. However when you get the punk kids who pull up next to you at a light. Well then it all goes to hell.

Shoot Brent an email at B2 Motorsports, his prices will beat others and he is a Ford FE nut. If your husband or you frequent the FE Forum you probably see his posts regularly

You'll need a third member and a new speedo gear, There are bunch of options based on how much you want to spend. Tell him Ross sent you. Built and shipped ny Christmas might be tight, but certainly ask him.

This is what I'm saving up for to put in my truck. http://www.richmondgear.com/powertrax/noslip.html Around $450, easy install and got rave reviews in Mustang and Fast Ford magazine.

Re: Christmas gift for husband
Good morning. Thank you for all of your responses. However I still have some questions. Maybe you guys can help me.
What is a mini spool? Do I still need to get the gears and stuff? For the car like I said has a 3:50 gear ratio in it now he wants a 4:11.
And the difference with light weight spool? We don't race the car. It is a Sunday driver. But I don't want it to gernade out my rear end when some young punk tests him at a stop light. (Not that he would do anything.....yea right!!!)
Why does this stuff have to be so hard? Or why can't I just be rich!!!!!!!

Re: Christmas gift for husband
You dont want a spool on a street car.
Both tires turn all the time, makes it hard to back into tight spaces, rougher on parts.
Call the guy I pushed you to, I can type all the options, but he can tell you the options and the prices.
I would recommend either a True Trac or a Detroit Locker depending on whether he can deal with the noise of a locker (its stronger but makes a snap when you go around corners)
I run a True Trac, 4.11 gear in my Mustang and its a very nice and strong setup

Re: Christmas gift for husband
The Richmond PowerTrax No-Slip I posted drops into your standard open carrier. You just remove the spider gears and replace it with the PowerTrax. No need to remove the ring and pinion gears if you want to keep the same gear ratio. If you want to change the gear ratio then you will need to pull the whole carrier, swap out the gears and have them reset by a qualified mechanic or machine shop. That is, unless he can do it himself. It's not difficult, so I'm told, just a little technical. Never done it myself but I have a friend who's done many. I have a 3rd member, in good condition, with the gear ratio I want so I'm going with the PowerTrax for ease of installation. Also supposed to be a lot quieter than a locker, from what I've read. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2004 ... /index.php and http://www.mustang50magazine.com/techar ... ewall.html

Re: Christmas gift for husband
mini spool just replaces the spider gears and full spool replaces the whole unit. the full spool is tougher. the mini spools are weak. you could just weld the gears if you are considering a mini spool. Your going to need a new ring gear an pinion if you want 4.11. full spools are locked 100% of the time so you will wear your tires a little more but if you only drive it once a week it wont hurt much.
