type of oil for a tremec 3 speed manual transmission

hi all...i have tremec 3 speed manual transmission and the manual says it takes "80 or 90 transmission lubricant"...can i run 80w-90 gl-5 gear lubricant in it or is it different...from what i read it seems to that hypoid gear oil is the same as ep oil (extreme pressure) and gl-5...it's designed for gears that are not the old style regular gears, but instead hypoid gears...i don't know what type of gears my transmission has...does anyone know...thanks
