oh trust me i know they can be done in the car, they already have been, that's what's frosting my nards (but thanx anyways)
it ain't the front seal,it ain't the pan or rear seal, etc. either - there is a tiny tiny leak @ around the vac modulator area, but that isn't the one that's bothering me
i've re-done the pan gasket 3 times because the bloody thing keep leaking afterwards, but it's all good now
the culprit now is most likely the @ the dipstick tube ,i changed the o-rings already which was freakin disaster - ever try getting a slimy dipstick tube back up into place and crammed back into the hole it came out of while lying on your back in soaking wet muddy gravel ? not fun.
anyways, thats a job for later (when its warm and not wet out),first i'm gonna get the shift arm dealt with
????c-4 shift lever length ????

Re: ????c-4 shift lever length ????
So I made the bracket; realized I had to make the connection on the other side of the pivoting point from where the shifting linkage is on my trans because this trans was meant for a floor shifter (see pictures)
So I moved the pivot to the bottom of the transmission to allow a column shift to shift it in the correct direction.
The distance between the pivoting point and the connection with the shifting linkage is 3.25", but you may want to just do what I did and make test pieces (I used 18ga first, made a simple bracket to find the right length)
That piece I made will be firmly bolted on to the transmission shifting bracket, so really it is just an extension of the bracket, added to change the direction of shifting. If I were to just lengthen the original shifting bracket, then park would be 1 and 1 would be park (I did that at first... then realized I was a dumba$$
Hope this helps

thanx a mill man! that's the info i was lookin for! you are the king!
- so the t-bird musta had a shift rod coming off the floor shifter or something?
my trans was originally out of a 84 or 85 v6 mustang floor shifted with a cable ,the shift arm points downwards - thankfully i won't have to engineer anything like you had to- and there was a bracket to hold the cable bolted to the rear of the case next to the tailshaft ( which i used as material to build some exhaust hangers )- just curious
