question about driveshaft removal
i know how to remove a driveshaft. my question is what does it mean to mark my driveshaft before i remove it? where do i mark with chalk? i dont understand. have to take it to a shop tomorrow morning for a complete rebuild with some nongrease ujoints and new seals and possibly get it rebalanced.

Re: question about driveshaft removal
Well, in my opinion, if you are doing all that, you might not need to mark it. If you don't, you have 2 chances to get it right.
I would just take chalk, grease pencil or soapstone and make a mark on the yoke and the driveshaft in the same spot and all is good.

Re: question about driveshaft removal
well everything is out except for the rear slip yolk input into the rear diff. does the retaining bolt keeping the rear slip yolk in my ford 9 inch rear end unfasten clockwise or counter clockwise? i took a breaker bar and a big wrench to it and tried to unfasten counter clockwise but didn't want to break anything, was starting to bend the breaker bar.

Re: question about driveshaft removal
ON a 2wd I am not sure, but my 4wd's bolt that held the yoke on was a regular RHT. I had it in my truck when I went to PepBoys and asked them how much to remove the bolt, they said they did it based on time... Well, 10 seconds later it was back in my hands perfectly removed! ...and FREE!
Take it to a place like PepBoys and they'll get it off for you with some HD air power!

you were right. a few different mechanics confirmed that they don't really come off without air tools. supposedly i was lucky to remove the transmission yolk with just hand tools.Doug F wrote:ON a 2wd I am not sure, but my 4wd's bolt that held the yoke on was a regular RHT.
