weird noise form trans.

Truck is a 70 F100 with a 302 and an AOD 2 wheel drive. Back when i had the old C4 trans in it. It started making a loud noise only from take off till about 1/2 way through first gear. It sounded exactly like spark knock, but way louder. I figured trans was toast and junked it.
The AOD i replaced it with was a low mileage unit out of an 82 Lincoln. Been driving it for about 6 months now trouble free. But then today it started making that same noise. Sound familiar to anyone. If this trans takes a **** i swear im T5'n it!

Might sound odd but have you checked your engine mounts? My C4 used to rumble on take off when i really booted it. Turned out the rhs engine mount was in two pieces and the noise was the motor flexing off its perch

U-joints?

u-joints and motor/tranny mounts all new when i put in the AOD. Sounds like its coming from the bell housing area, Seems like the torque converter but not sure.
