C6 transmission

I need a C6 transmission for my 390 - What engine do I need to look for to get the correct C6 to fit the 390 Hope this makes sense

Look for a C6 that fits any Ford FE engine. It's the only bell housing pattern that will bolt up to your motor without using an expensive adaptor.

Let me rephrase the question Which engine size are Fe blocks I am going to upull it this week hopefully I think 352 and 360 right?

352's and 360's are FE series engines and will use the same bell housing patterns. FE's are considered big block Fords.

Sorry, No. 429's and 460's (385 series Ford motors also referred to as Lima motors) have a different bell housing bolt pattern than FE's. What you should be looking for is any 1968 through 1976 Ford F series pickup equipped with either a 360 or 390 FE engine that has an automatic transmission as that transmission will be a short tail shaft C6 with an FE bell housing pattern.

Try to find a donor truck that has it's drive shaft(s), kick down linkage, vacuum modulator vacuum lines, speedometer cable, cross member (automatic trans cross members are different from manual trans cross members), tailshaft support bushing...in other words as much as you can. It'll make swapping that much easier.

EDIT: Correction on the "short tail shaft C6" comment I made, I've seen both long and short tail shaft C6's in Ford pickups and either one will work. Long tail shafts tend to be found in 1973 to 1976 FE/C6 applications...at least that's been my observation.

I think this adventure is not going to be fun . There are not too many old trucks in junkyards down here in central florida . I did see one last week being crushed my luck that was the trans I was looking for Thank You

352, 360, 390, 410, 427 and 428 all have the same bellhousing pattern.
