F-100 & F-250 compatible?

Post by moto_man98 »

To All,
This is my first forum and I need some help. I have a 1972 F-100 4x4 short bed step side. I am in the process of trying to get it fixed up to use as a fun truck in the mud, or for work around my property... I have a friend wanting to sell me his truck for parts to use on my truck. His truck is the same Except his is a F-250. I am mostly interested in the whole lower front end, (Ex. Axles, gears...) Will any of these parts be compatible with my truck?

Thanks for the help...

Helo moto-man, I have a 72 f250 4x4 as well. The f100 being a half ton is a pretty differant animal. your front end has a coil spring vs the f250 that has leaf springs. The frames are differant. your f100 has a married type transfer case and the f250 has a divorced transfer case. basically the only interchangable parts are going to be body related and possibly engine and trans if both trucks have the same engine transmission combo.

The drivetrain is almost entirely different between 100 and 250 4x4's. Even though both have D44 front axles, the F100 has a high pinion axle, the F250 a low pinion one.

plus the F100 axle uses coil springs and the F250 axle uses leaf spring in front.

Can you take his truck and use that instead? swap some of your parts over? You'd be much happier with the f250. Better all the way around when comparing a f100 4x4 to f250 4x4. F100 4x4's have their purpose and they are very cool trucks all pretty like...
