Mine's in the floor and I'd LOVE to have it on the column where it belongs.

If you do, GO HURST. NOT CHEAPIE. Mine is JUNK.

Well, the main reason is in fact that mine is junk, but I don't like it for the fact that you need a LONG cane to make it reach too. Really though, I like the convince of a column shifter (if mine was good, I'd rebuild my trans and keep it, but swapping in a toploader).

SO you have a 3-on-the-tree right now but want it on the floor like a 4-spd?
Just remember that when you take 2 other people for a ride the person in the middle needs to be small :D . That's one of the problems i have with my 4 spd is the lack of a middle person's leg room but I don't plan on driving many people places.

here's my 3 speed "floor shift" lol

nope...want it on the floor like a three speed...on the floor  ya i'm not too worried about middle passengers, i'd just like to change it up a little. three in the tree is cool, but a real hastle for the power steering, and shorter steering colum  i like the purpose built race truck you got there...really nice  8)

I've put a floor shift onto my 3-speed. Truck originally was a 3-on-the-tree which was broken when I got it. I bought a Hurst Indy shifter for it. Still need to hook my linkage up and install a shifter boot, but otherwise shifter itself is installed. Looks like the previous owner(s) had converted it to floor shift at some point, it's got 2 holes in the floor and had a bracket on the trans.

I'm sorry if I ask lots of questions, there's just a lot of stuff I don't know (yet).

My dad converted his 56 Chevy from 3 on the tree to 3 on the floor when he got it. I prefer it other than the reverse is on the top left. That car ended up getting an automatic after its resto.

Oh I was going to add, if you have a 4 speed with granny gear, it might as well be a 3 on the floor, like in my case.

you'll need the rods that go from the trans to the column.

The previous owner of my truck put the 3 speed shifter on the floor. The shifter itself is factory Ford, but I don't know whats it's out of. He said he bought a universal rod, arm, and bracket kit, but gave no more info than that. Wish I had more specific info to give you. I can get some pictures tommorow in the daylight if it helps. I can tell you that after some tinkering and adjusting it works great.
