Re: 3m 3.3M 3.5M ?
are all 3 symbols on there or just one of them? if its just one of them it could stand for the weight ratign of the front axle. here is a page that may help also. i will check out some ibeams in the morning and see what i can tell about them. http://www.fordification.com/Ibeamsspindles.htm http://www.fordification.com/str-susp_variations.htm

At the Fordification website I was trying to find the right exploded diagram of front axle parts for my 72 F250 4x4 and saw diagram options for 3M or 3.3M or 3.5M. Just curious what that codification means.

ok i see that now. i think that has to do with hte weight ratign of the front axle. but i am unsure. but thats my best guess. unless someone else will stop in and give an opinion.

Sounds logical. Since M is the Roman numeral for a thousand, those would be 3000, 3300, and 3500.

I'm sorry if I ask lots of questions, there's just a lot of stuff I don't know (yet).

I have a 1960 f100 and when I was doing research on my vin I found out that is came with a 3.3m rear end. Those numbers stand to what kind of rear end/ front end you have. Like 8.8 9" and so one. Hope that helps you some.

That is correct, but it is also used for the weight rating for the rear axle.fordman wrote: i think that has to do with hte weight ratign of the front axle.
That is also correct.ka_jd7and1 wrote:Sounds logical. Since M is the Roman numeral for a thousand, those would be 3000, 3300, and 3500.

Your information is not necessarily correct. You can have a 3.3M Ford 9-inch or a 3.3M Dana 44. It applies to the larger trucks, also, so you could have a 38M Rockwell or a 38M Spicer. There's really no correlation there.
