What is involved in converting to a 4x4?
I have an f250 2wd with a 352 and an auto. If I found a 4x4 drivetrain would it be possible or make sense to convert into a 4x4 ?

The best way would be to swap sheet metal, put your truck's body on a donor 4WD chassiscancow wrote:If I found a 4x4 drivetrain would it be possible or make sense to convert into a 4x4 ?
To convert a 2WD chassis to 4WD is quite an undertaking as the steering gear is in a different location from 2WD to 4WD, F250 4WD cabs mount to the chassis differently than F250 2WD, if your 2WD truck has an auxiliary, under bed, fuel tank, that will have to go as a Dana 24 divorced transfer case resides in it's place.
I'm probably leaving things out, but I hope you get the idea that it's best to swap your truck's body to a complete 4WD chassis. A complete 1964 to 1977-1/2 chassis is what you should be looking for as these are high boys.
If your looking for an F100 4WD, I don't have much experience with them and it may prove easier for you.

I think they are,I just bought a '76high boy parts truck to get the disk 44 for the front of my '68.
The frame appears the same, same width front and rear I would need to examine it closer with the tape to be sure.
if you were closer to me I would make you a heck of a deal on it as i am parting out the truck.

Re: What is involved in converting to a 4x4?
73 and newer trucks have a longer wheelbase. The frames are real close, but not identicle. The rear axles under 73 and newer trucks are much wider than the pre-72 ones, yet the front axles under F-250 4x4's stayed the same width until they were changed to disc brakes in 76. The disc front axles grew 1.5" in width overall.
I'd try to find a 67-72 chassis (hopefully a complete truck). I put a bump body on a 77 F-250 chassis, but I used a flatbed so the wheelbase difference didn't matter.
