My Ol' Pig
finally got ahold of my camera- here's my first car 20 years and too many times torn apart and put together again later:
the whole idea of the build up this time was to use the best "previously enjoyed" junk i have squirreled away and build a "survivor" ratrod-ish truck..
she ain't too pretty, but i luv 'er just the same..
70 f350 motorhome cab,fibreglass fenders ,68 merc hood & box
5.0 w marine grind roller cam,83 mustang intake, edelbrock 600cfm ,flowtech headers...c4 auto
the paintjob blows goats and the trim is screwed on (except the piece i gotta make still) ,but whatever, its almost one color
puke yellow custom cab, factory buckets , 70's gm p/u belts and the console/cupholder out of a 70's gmc jimmy
heres the patch where the walkthru used to be...not finished of course
here's the totally butch in-cab gas tank relocation to the box ,thats gonna be changed hopefully this winter
the wiring looked all neat and tidy until the duraspark unit i had retired and i had too replace it with a different distributor with a crane points eliminator i had kickin around.... i also had to rewire it all cuz the alternator is relocated to the drivers side so i can use the 89 linclon towncar ribbed belt setup

Hey...another "Little 302" as some guys here call them! Lovin' it man, the truck shows individualism at it's best.

I like her just the way she is! How's that C4 pull behind that 302? Mine's a 70 long bed too. I'm putting a 351w in it with a C4 I got for free. Was wondering if it was worth the effort to rebuild the C4 or spend the money for a C6.

i've had big blocks, they're cool to & i reallly loved the 351w i used to have in this pig ,but you can't beat a 302 for fun per dollar.. plus,i got this one from my bro for pretty much free (well, actually ,in lieu of payment, but whatever)
as for the wood..well thats actually to catch the drool from my 87 f250 diesel and try to save the asphalt ...the ol' 6.9 kinda wets its bed a little..
the c4, this ones pretty good,it shifts a little softer than i'd prefer, but it doesn't complain at all ....i still have to hookup a kickdown linkage, and extend the shift arm on the trans ,then it'll kick ass like the ones i've had in the past...especially if i get a shift kit...sargentrs wrote:I like her just the way she is! i ran a c4 behind my 351w (.30 over,9.5 :1 comp ,69 290hp mustang spec. camshaft, true roller chain, edelbrock performer intake, holley blah, blah) for years with out any problems
...well actually,i went through 2 of em..
the first one i had got injured one day ( i was being a moron and neutral dropped it @ 6000 rpm) and after that it would grind gears if you let it shift itself...but i still ran it for another 3 years before i could afford to replace it with a better one....it still worked (as well as it ever did ) when i ditched it..
#2 trans was primo, i kicked the living bejezzus outta it all the time ...i used to street race alot.(and by alot i mean,ALOT).and use the truck for fence installs , landscaping and doing yard cleanups for people all the time...
i'd just go with the c4,they take a hell of a beating...or at least mine always did...regularly...but i've smartened up slightly over time

Re: My Ol' Pig
I got a and c4. I like it alot. No quarter mile machine but plenty fun. As for the c4 its been tough as nails but mine shifts too early and soft too. I just go for manual shifitng and keep going though. years and its still kicking. Trans gave some probs and it sat for 2 years almost. Went and picked it up from my moms to start driving again after a trans swap and no problems still. Havent changed the trans cause old one is fixed yoke and new is slip and dont have driveshaft. Figure when this on decides to really crap Ill have to change it but 2 years of rest helped it!! Cool ol truck you got though.

c4's can even heal themselves,try that with a c6! !
c4's are tough little buggers AND they take less power to operate
- its kinda tempting to grab a floor shifter ain't it?
i had a fixed yoke c4 in a rat infested 68 f250 parts truck - with a 240 6cyl &4.56 geared dana 60 ( probably had a top speed of 45 mph) - it was unfortunately totally fragged because of antifreeze contamination ( the trans cooler in the rad had an internal leak that let the coolant into the tranny fluid and vice versa) i've never seen one before or since..
if you do change the trans out,you could probably get your existing driveshaft cut down to fit the slip yoke trans
... or if you've got a 2pc shaft , you can get a front section out of a later model (up to 79 ) c4 equipped truck( if you can find one, they're rarer than rocking horse poop around here) and use it with your rear section
... or get the front shaft from a fixed yoke c6 or manual trans equipped truck cut down to fit

Re: My Ol' Pig
Thanks for the info guys! I feel better now. Got the 351w and C4 out of a donor truck for my P/S setup. It was a '71 and the PO had swapped the power train at some point. The case is a '76 casting and the 351 is an '85 casting so i have no idea what they came out of. Looks like some water got in it cuz the fluid is pinkish so I was going to try my hand at rebuilding it. If it lasts a month I'm still out nothing but a rebuild kit so I figured, what the heck, I'll put it in. I was concerned about it's ability to stand up to the 351 (pushing 400hp) and a 4000 lb truck but I feel more comfortable now. Sorry to hijack and thanks!

Mines a sliding one piece. Truck is shorty. Wish there was an off the shelf driveshaft thatd fit. Guy said 3spd man shorty would work but I aint sure. Dont want truck down long enough to cut one! After driving it again Im hooked!
