cool 4 speed with OD swap for FE's

Post by harrysnyder »

Friday night I helped my buddy swap a 4 speed overdrive manual transmission into his 69 F100. His truck is a shortbed with a 360 and 3 speed manual. One of our customers at work found him a 4 speed transmission that bolted right in. We just pulled the 3 speed from the bellhousing, cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, and bolted it back in. The speedometer and crossmember bolted back in just as it was on the 3 speed. Same type transmission mount and the slip yoke off of the 3 speed was the same. Another cool note is that the stock aluminum driveshaft out of a 03-07 Crown Vic is the perfect length for this swap. We were told that the transmission is out of an 88 model F150 and it is an awesome swap. Here are the numbers off the ID tag:
KG30 RTS BV G30
E6TR 1A 2951

I searched for this before and had a tough time finding info so hopefully this will help someone o

That looks nothing like the transmission we swapped in. The transmission we swapped in has the shifter protruding from the top of the tranny case, and it isn't a steel case, it's like aluminum or something.

Sounds like the same transmission I have, its an RTS Single Rail 4 Speed with OD, they came in 1984 thru 89 F150's and Bronco's with 300 I-6's and 302's. I baby it only because I hear they are not that strong and parts are hard to find. Everytime I go to the junk yard I think about grabing an aluminum driveshaft out of the CV but all the ones I find are dented from the forklifts.
