Did the 1976 F250 come with a D60 front axle, is it worth using or just get a 78-79 high pinon 60?

Re: 1976 front axle?
Crewcab F250's had low pinion closed knuckle 60's from 73-75 and low pinion open knuckle disc dana 60's from 76-77.5.
The low pinion 60's don't work out great with lifts and mated transfer cases nor do they have the same strong parts as the 78-79 axles do.

check out the thread in this forum titled 76-77.5 oddball, there are things you can do to bring the strength of the low pinion up to par and they work fine with the divorced case if your interested in doing so. one of these can be found for $200 or so as opposed to 1200 for a hi pinion
