Re: 1969 FS Bronco
The in cab fuel tank just isn’t going to work so the Bronco tank it is.
I know that in 1969 Ford would have just poked a hole in the side panel and stuffed a filler neck there, but I have to believe that there was dedicated but suppressed engineer who tried to introduce the concept of a fuel door to the big bosses who probably laughed at him.
A fuel door it is.
Before cutting the bronco bedside, I marked the fuel door location on the saved panel.
Ended up moving the door down about 1 1/2” to stay out of the bump, and back about an inch to not crowd the wheel opening on the outside and the wheel house on the inside.
Staying below the bed seam keeps any fume seepage out of the cabin.
I used the flanging tool on the bedside to create a recess for the door panel to fit flush
Ready for welding (after I grind off a little more paint)
Getting close to setting the top on for a look see!!!
It will most likely be a two tone, fiberglass top a semi gloss black and the all “Ranger” moldings put back on.
The three bed moldings for each side will have to be shortened. That will be fun!
Thanks all for the nice comments.

Yep, its gotta have a politically correct tailgate. The 69’ style with the 78’ fit and function and roll up glass. I can do it some how.Joshpow wrote:…. You gonna do something to make a bump style tailgate too?
I do have some ideas for color, every week I see a new idea though.zack wrote:....cant wait to see it in paint....any color Ideas???

Re: 1969 FS Bronco
Wow, build me one! I like!! You are starting to see what it is going to look like in the end, looks like it will have a factory bump look when you are done.

Re: 1969 FS Bronco
Here it is!!
If you have been waiting to see, here it is.
A 1969 full size Bronco.
Had I not been so excide to see the Bronco with the top on, I would have done this first.
I had to get these pictures done, this will be the last chance to see it as one piece.
I have had a lot of fun getting to this point, now I have to start some of the real work.
Small list of things that need done before welding the bed together:
1) Install new body mounts
2) Repair rust and change left fender
3) Repair rust on right fender
4) Repair lower mount on cab for right fender.
5) Disassemble bedsides
6) Clean surface rust from undersides
7) POR 15 inside of bedsides
8 ) Clean welds and corrosion protection on cab reinforcements
9) Same for rear bed pillars
10) Find a better fitting right door, without speaker hole (looks like hole was made with a shotgun and a can opener)
11) Reassemble bed panels
12) Make sure body lines are straight down the full length
13) Test fit top
Start welding!

Re: 1969 FS Bronco
The sad part about this is because you have done such a great job with this project, only people that know their Fords/Broncos/Bumps, are going to know that you actually created this and know exactly what you have accomplished!! All of the others who dont know any better are just going to think it is an old Bronco!
Of course, that is a total compliment to your abilities and what you have accomplished, but still, everyone should know what an amazing job you have done!!
Cant wait to see it when it is complete with paint and interior! This is absolutely one of the best builds I have seen!

Re: 1969 FS Bronco
The best part about missing this thread at first is that I can watch the whole season at once on DVD!!! I didn't have to wait...until now. I can't wait to see this thing finished! You've got some high octane ambition and awesome skills to get it done my friend! Great progress and it looks fantastic! I always thought it'd be cool to put a '73-'77 front clip onto a '78-'79 (but that's EASY!). That would close the gap between your bumpside Bronco and the '78. People might start calling the real 1st gen Bronco the Bronco 'II' of '66-'77!
Anyway, very cool build...I love stuff like this! Keep it up!
